you can just copy MPG files to the MS and it plays perfectly.. I have been using quicktime pro to convert your videos to MPEG1 or MPEG4!!
this is fantastic! I thought I would have to go jump through hoops running image converter or something stupid like that to make MQV files etc..
I have a UX50, do you know if it works with other models?.. it works a TREAT! VERY HAPPY JAN!! :D

Yeah, I think MPEG1 works on both my TG and my NX. Files are huge, though, and I'd rather have them in .mqv for that reason.

but you can use MPEG4 correct.. and isn't MQV just MPEG anyway?
I would say the only file size problem is compression settings.. I have no idea what MQV is but if I have to use propraitary software to make them I would sooner not...

I have QuickTime PRO. Didnt know i could use it to export to a valid MQV file format though.
Will try later on tonight and post back my findings.
BTW, i will be testing it on my NX70v

MQV is just a name, those files are MPEG files, no?

Matt,
I may have misspoke; the files need to be .mov on the clie to work. Change to .mqv for quicktime 6 to read them.
HOWEVER!
Don't think all .mqv files can be changed to .mov and will be compatible. Movieplayer is terribly rigid with its settings. If you run a .mqv file through image converter (or whatever it's called by sony), then it will more than likely work. Note I said more than likely ;)

Yeh i know about the files.
MQV files are basically a form of a Quicktime MPEG-4 movie with AAC audio.
I am currently using Image Converter and the IC Prefs Prog to change the settings, and all is good. But it is always nice to have an alternative way, which is quicker and of less hassel!
Will post back later

Ok, i tried it.
Used a 2 minute video of Matrix Reloaded Trailer.
IC comes out with a 8mb file on MAX settings.
QT came out with a 20mb file on same settings (i think)!!
Anyway, its gettin late, i will try mess around with more settings tommorow and see what happens. Im too tired and stressed to do it now.
Matt
P.s. my 100th post, YES!!!!!!

The strange thing is that some movies have a better quality if encoded by IC in the second quality (standard ?) than in the better or super one...
There are less black compression squares in fact...

does it still come with the image converter tool?

Yep... With one more option "mega super quality" with the 29,97 fps option :)
More like a gadget I think :)

Interesting translation of the new option (highest quality) in IC... :)

Do MPEG files need to be in a certain directory to be seen by the Movie Player app? I've copied over the 2 sample movie files to my memory stick but they don't show up (under MS MPEG movie format).

Yes, you need to name them in a special way and t put them in a special directory:
Folders (on the Memorystick):
DCIM/100MSDCF/ or MSSONY/MOML0001/
Names:
MOV00001.MPG, MOV00002.MPG ans so on...

It's called NX Movie Aide, but it doesn't work for .MPG's, only .MQV's.

I just tried an mpeg 4 file and it doesn't show.. Maybe it needs VCD mpeg (I think that's mpeg 1)

The Clie can play 2 type of files:
MQV done by Image Converter
MPEG files... (MPEG 1)
That's all...
To play DivX you need Mplayer which is really buggy on CLIE...

I have to say, I've been pretty impressed with the quality of Image Converter on some DivX music videos. That super high quality setting rocks. Will try a DVD burn soon.
