I thought the ROM on the NX series was flasheable. Can't one do all of the updates to the ROM contents of the NX70 and then update the on board ROM with the new contents?
For example, the MS pro drivers etc. Couldn't one just flash those into the NX70?
Any good place for a ROM faq, or a good description of how the memory system in these things works and what you can and cannot do based on where an app or data is stored...
Thanks!

The ROM is flashable, but there are no utilities available to completely rewrite all the files. The best you can do is purchase JackFlash and use the latest beta. You will be able to add files to the unused ROM space.

One caveat, any files that mirror and are intended to replace those in ROM, HAVE TO STAY IN RAM, just so yo know:)

So then the NR series has a different kind of flash on board that allows it to be JackSprat'ed? And also has something before OS5?
That's a bummer.
Does the NX70V have the new locked flash too, but just not totally locked down? How come we can't use JackSprat on the NX70V?
Maybe the flash can be replaced with an unlocked one that has been programmed with the ROM image...
Does anyone do this?

Can you flash OS5 onto an NR?

Most certainly not.
no because the hardware does not match

Well...
I'm going to look into this and see if there is a way to replace the Samsung flash device in the NX80V with an "unlocked" one...
Or at least one programmed with a ROM core that I want...
This'll obviously involve ball grid array de-soldering and such later, but I'll see if it's even possible first.
Does the OS expect to be read-only, or does it even care? Are the apps in the ROM aware that they are read only?
How about this, does JackSprat dump the ROM properly? If it can't write it back (right now) that's fine, but I wonder if it dumps properly...

Samsung?
It is the new all in one Intel Strata Flash chip with combined ROM and CPU. It can be locked by a 64 bit key.

Sorry, mistype, I meant to type NX70V... Got the NX80V on the brain, as I just scoped one out in detail at the store...
Going to stick with my brand new NX70V for now, and get the NX80V when the price drops like a rock later (as it always does)
