I need just a little help. I have WindowsXP , 2Wire Home Portal DSL , Belkin Bluetooth Dongle USB. I can connect to my computer and even hotsync. I can connect to my computer using Netfont, But I can not get to the internet. All I get is a Network timeout. I have read all the threads on this but still have no luck. Pulling my hair out does not seem to help. Can anyone help me?

What have you defined your connection as? modem? PC?...?

You have to remember that BT is just like a data cable, it's not like WiFi where you are a full node on a network. IIRC, you need to be able to connect to your computer using PPP or SLIP or something, which isn't bundled with Windows. Here is an article from PIC on connecting a BT-enabled POS device to the Net (http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=4521). Good luck.

I got it to work using XP's internet connection sharing feature . . . you allow users connecting via bluetooth to use your PC's regular network connection to get to the internet.

that's the right solution...

You're right captainao and Greg. The solution with MochaPPP works fine, but there's no need to buy anything: the Windows ICS will do what's needed. You guys can have a look in our Bluetooth Guides ( http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449) for some more info on this.

Thats a good guide but sadly it's not working for me as yet :(

I manage to get a connection ok (with the added script) but it wont ping anywhere.

I think the problem may be to do with the fact that my PC is connected to a DHCP server on my router therefore ICS either doesn't work or doesn't work in the same way.

Does anyone have experience of connecting via ICS with a router and would care to share their setup?

You are probably set up for a serial connection only. Have you setup the Network profile in the BT software ? Have you setup a Connection profile on the clie using a LAN conncetion ? If you can hotsync, you can surf... It's just a matter of software settings.

Oh, you will also net to setup another user in the Users settings in XP control panel....

If you can give more info on your setup I can be more specific about how to set this up.

Well I had been doing hotsync via bluetooth serial port but I've just tried using the network profile and that works just fine so I think the issue is on the PC (Windows 2k). None of the guides has suggested setting up another user - what's that for?

The settings on the clie are exactly as they are in the above guide.

Thanks for you help so far :D

Oh snappermail reports 'bad DNS name Failed to connect to..'

You might want to have the DNS from your ISP hardcoded into the Bluetooth virtual adapter (just under 192.168.0.1). also, make sure your DHCP assigned IP (on your computer) is not in the 192.168.0.x range, by doing an ipconfig /all from the command line.

Also, just to test, make sure you have no firewalls up. If it works you might want to revise your rules (if you have a firewall of course).

Still no joy :( but thanks for the suggestions - Bluetooth is plug and play right? :mad:

Think I'll sleep on it and try again in the morning.

Ok got it working at last - thanks for the assistance.

It seems to get ICS sharing working with a router (well my router anyway) you need to put the primary and secondary DNS in to both the clie and the bluetooth network properties. You also need to put in 192.168.0.1 as the IP address in the TCP/IP propeties of the bluetooth network. I have left the IP address ticked as automatic on the clie and it works just fine.

Although I disabled file and printer sharing and the Microsoft network client initially (as mentioned in another thread) this wasn't necessary in my case as it works fine with these enabled.

Yes... at last I could utilise my office LAN network to access Internet "wirelessly" thru BT.

Thanks guys for the solution.. but I hope the BT connection become more consistent.

Anyone have idea to flash the ROM to Palm 5.2.1??

I'm in Wyoming on the range. Can you tell me how to use Bluetooth? Is there a better way to access the internet? Can you tell me if my Clie has a cellular/GPS add-on?

Bluetooth is quite limited as you know.

I assume the problem is with the DHCP server we use
since the default gateway is 192.168.0.1 ..

Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449) and the first article is a checklist and sugestions on things to change if the LAN access doesn't work.

freitasm: I was playing with the Script a bit and I discovered if I use

/* optional with the same results */
Send: CR
Delay: 1
Send: CLIENT
/* optional with the same results */
Send: CLIENT
End:

it generates error "Timeout 0x1231 error"
and in the log it is

LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq
LCP->CfgReq

LCP Timeout

if I change it to

/* optional */
Send: CR
Delay: 1
Send: CLIENT
/* optional */
Send: CLIENT
Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
End:

it ends up after a couple of seconds (wih Signing on) with 0x1212 error and in log files is

S: ^M
S: CLIENT
R:
Err: 0x1212

any hints on this ?

You say in your post that there's another machine (gateway) with 192.168.0.1 and DNS servers on 192.168.0.2

I take this is a configuration you can't change. If this is the case, ICS *will* not work.

The alternative is using Winrouter Lite. Or the MochaPPP option.
