question/problem.

so i'm trying to set up an image of my own as wallpaper in yishow. i hotsynced the image as a jpg(20kb). when i tried to set up the image as wallpaper, yishow couldn't do it. btw,,,,the image did not fit, and i didn't know how to resize to fit 320x320. 320x320 on my computer is not 320x320 on the clie.

so then i converted the jpg with picture gear lite. i was able to set the size at 320x320. great! however,,,,picture gear converted this file into a 192kb prc file!!!!!!!!! yikes! well, hotsynced fine and guess what,,,yishow was able to set the prc file as a wallpaper. so now i have a wallpaper the size of two apps! is this the way it's supposed to be??

why does PG lite convert an image into a bloated prc file?

also,,,nice wallpaper, but i was hoping to get a different wallpaper for each category. can this be done?....and at a cheaper file size?

thanks

first of all... resize with photoshop or something
second it's supposed to be converted to pdb nor prc
third you'll need an ms to load it just like that
or
select it as bg img if it's on internal

here's where i get really dumb with image programs. i did in fact set to resize at 320x320 with paint shop pro. but since the computer resolution is 72dpi,,,a 320x320 translates to about 4.4" square, which of course is much too large for the clie. i don't know how to set the sizing in paint shop pro to coincide with that of the clie. what is the dpi of the clie?

i couldn't find a format of my choosing for PG lite. it converted the image to prc. what could i do? i don't know why it didn't at least convert to pgp.

Resizing to 320x320 pixels is correct for your clie. It has nothing to dowith the dpi.

hmmm,,,well, allz i can say is i must be doing something wrong. 320x320 pixel size is WAYYYYYYYY to big on the clie screen.

just for the heck of it, i pulled up the jpg in adobe photoshop elements and checked the size.....320x320 pixel dimension, it also says, document size 4.444x4.444 inches.

the clie screen is about 2.125x2.125 inches,,,which is where i start to get really confused.

anyway, as i think i mentioned,,,if i let PGlite do all the work, it does it right. i set the size at 320x320 and the resulting image fits. HOWEVER, as i said, PGlite turns the jpg into a 190kb prc file!!!

320x320 pixel on the computer should also be 320x320 pixels on the clie...
Did you test it? It works for me...

Lancelot, Why are you whitering on about DPI, stop it.  DPI is for print, pixels are for screen.  Have your jpg image at 320x320 and it will fit on your clie (keep it at 72DPI which is default for screen) .  To get your jpg onto your clie to use in yishow you need to use msimport to map a drive on your computer to the memory stick in your clie.  Then just copy the jpg onto the memory stick.  Just read the manual to find out where because I havn't used yishow for a bit.

BTW, you can't store the jpeg format in RAM, memory stick yes, but not in RAM. The 190K file sounds about right for a 320x320 picture in RAM

well,,,i've been able to hotsync the jpg in two ways. the clie manual way, which suggests PGlite, and just adding the jpg through clie desktop's install. and as n2ifp says, the jpg goes to MS automatically.

i still don't know why PGlite converts the jpg to a prc file. and i'm beginning to think yishow is fickle about its wallpaper.

And even if it is a 50k-JPG on the Stick, Yishow too will convert it to a 190k-PDB in RAM. On a NR70, the 320x480 Background for YiShow takes 300k (look for 'YiSuBackImgDBS').

lance,

Here are the tools I use, and if you really are into the "background thing," which I am and it sounds like you are, it's worth a couple of investments.

On my desktop, I use Webshots for my wallpapering. www.webshots.com
The desktop app is free but I would recommend buying membership to get the high resolution images. If my memory is right, you can buy like two year and three year memberships cheap - about $15 a year, all the downloads you want. They have tons of images in every category you can think of.

Then, I recommend SplashPhoto (AcidImage will probably work just as good) because that's what I'm familiar with and it works absolutely painlessly.

With these tools, I can select an image from Webshot's web, or one stored in my libraries, pop it into my PC's wallpaper. Then I launch SplashPhoto desktop, choose add, and browse to C:\Windows root directory and select "WebshotsFor(your userID).bmp. It will always be named that no matter what picture is displayed as your PC wallpaper. When I select it, the picture pops up in SplashPhoto's desktop app where I can manipulate the photo, i.e. zoom, contrast, brighten, and select from a slew of resolutions up to 320x480 16bit color. I can choose .jpg which will automatically install it on the MS at sync, or .pdb and choose either RAM or MS. Then choose "install." You will not see the file in "Install Tool," but the file is stored in C:\program files\Sony Handheld\(your device name)\Splashphoto\Cardinst\.

If you sync a .jpg file it will install on the MS in your SplashPhoto folder. YiShow will not find it there. You would need to copy or move it to your YiShow\Wallpaper folder on the MS. If you want to be able to view the photo as both background in YiShow and in the SplashPhoto app on your Clie, then this is the way to go. If you only want the image as a Yishow background, then after saving the file in the SplashPhoto desktop app, launch MS Import and drag the .jpg from C:\program files\Sony Handheld\(your device name)\Splashphoto\Cardinst\ to your MS Yishow\Wallpaper folder.

Sounds complicated but once you do it a couple of times it's very simple and quick. From the time I select a new photo on the Webshots website, I can have it as wallpaper on my PC and as a background on my Clie in less than 3 minutes. The photos at Webshots are stunning. For personal photos stored on your PC, SplashPhoto will handle jpg, bmp, gif with all the customization mentioned above.

Give it a shot. You can demo both Webshots and SplashPhoto before spending any money, although the Webshots photos will be in a lower resolution. Hope this helps. :)

Oh yea, my stunning quality jpgs average 40K with SplashPhoto, not 190K!

You don't have to move it to the Yishow/Wallpaper folder... just use YiShows File-Browser, browse to the correct folder and you can a) watch the picture by tapping on it b) tap-and-hold for the context-menu and select "Backimage".

Ah, yes you are correct! But if you want to use "/b" to switch backgrounds, it will need to be in the specific folder. ;)

I have been playing with BG lately and trying to add skins. So far the images I have saved from sites like Cliesource & clieskins have not all been showing up in YiShow.

For the BG images I find that they are 320x480 in jpg format and listed as BG for wallpaper. I move the files to the correct folder in YiShow for wallpaper using MSimport (once I realized what it was). But not all are being listed. Is there a file limit, how do you make them PDB other than using SplashPhoto (which is my std app).

Second for Skins. It says that YiShow does not support skins yet for OS5 on the clie. I have the stock skin from YiShow, but would like to change it. Again loaded files from the sources listed above for YiShow skins and no go. The files are uncompressed etc.

Any help would be appreciated.
