I've been having this annoying problem where, after I've been listening to musiv via. headphones or something, the internal speaker would no longer work unless I whacked the back of the unit a few times.

Eventually this stopped working too, and curious as ever I took the thing apart to try and find out why.

It turns out that the audio jack socket has a really cheap tiny spring-switch: When you plug the headphones in, it gets pushed out, disconnecting the internal speaker I assume.
Unfortunately, on mine it wasn't springing back all the way when you pulled out the headphones, leaving the internal speaker muted.

In the end I fixed it by taking out the 3 screws holding in the cover over the jog dial assembly, wedging small bit of paper over the stereo jack and then putting the cover back on.
The extra pressure from the paper forces the spring-switch to close properly when you unplug the headphones.

Just thought I'd share this with anyone who might have had this problem (I know it was driving *me* insane! :P)
