It is killing my battery. MAX connect time is about 1 hour.... This with the patch installed. Curious what others are getting for MAX connect times.

Did you turn down brightness?

With beam receive off, and brightness set to about one third (pointer sticks between D and J of ADJUST BRIGHTNESS) - I can get 2 hours of connect time with the WiFi module. I believe the batt dropped to 45% then, so I can probably go for a few more minutes before connectivity is lost.

Beam Receive? Didn't think of that. I 've been bettering an hour but not by much. This is when using Netfront, with the lighting is all the way down. I feel the battery info is now some how different after the software update I did. It seems to hold onto the higher values until I disconnect and return. Then it posts a lower charge value. I also noticed the battery info seems to be different between the old apps interface and the new Clie apps interface.

Battery life would also depend on how much data has transfered during your surfing.

That's what I thought. So Palm oriented sites would "cost less" in battery energy, than surfing high graphic content sites.
When the surfing experience approaches that of a regular PC, people will be screaming for replacable/rechargable batteries.
Hey, I've been using ClieMail with my Yahoo mail, and I've checked in my preferences, "Auto Receive". It'll actually check mail even if you have the poweroff. Great feature when its on in your cradle, but a concern when I leave it in my brief case.

Brightness at 30%, cache turned off... Trying the "Beam off" route and gonna try to reenable the cache (post patch, maybe it'll work better?!!!) Otherwise, I'm gonna have to get a power cord if I wanna sit in the living room to surf while my wife watchs TV!!!

Oh yeah, another thing - I turned off system sounds (alarms set to max volume, games to medium).
P/S I keep the charger in the living room, myself.. :)

Ermmm.. Under PREFS, GENERAL, the BEAM RECEIVE option will show up. For brightness control, you'll need to click on the little 'sun' icon under the MENU icon in the virtual graffiti area.
Hope this helps.

Hello gang,
Before 'Black Monday' (the day the dBase here at ClieSource went south) I had posted an NX wifi battery torture test...
As I can best recall, here are the details...
I charged my NX to full capacity then unplugged. With the backlight set at a minimum I connected via the WL100 card to my WAP and began downloading a rather large file (50+ mb) from my server with NetFront. This was done to ensure that the device was constantly receiving data.
My Results:
At the 60 minute point the device had approximately 60% remaining.
At the 120 minute point it had somwhere around 35% remaining (if I recall correctly)
At the 147 minute point (nearly 2 1/2 hours) the device put a warning on the screen then powered down thus ending the test.
So, the device stayed on for nearly 2 1/2 hours with backlight set on minimum and constant bandwidth receipt. I would be interested in someone elses results...
Cheers,
Rich
p.s. Beam receive was OFF on the unit during the test
