I havent been able to hotsync since June 2.

I know your probly think how in the .... did you survive. Lets just say i have been using card back up and MS import to install stuff. I have just finnally gotten around to trying to figure out what the heck is wrong>

Other than a hard reset and complete reinstal (not a restore but a reinstall from scratch.) Does anyone have any suggestions??

opps, forgot the error message.

When hotsync button is pushed it says "Connecting with the desktop using qÿÿÿÿ" Then almost immeditly it come and says unable to initiate because port is in use by another application.

This could not have anything to do with those little know dot shortcuts could it??

try a warm reset. Hold the "up" button and push the reset pin into the reset hole. You can release the up button once you have seen the palm screen thingy. Hope it works... rpobably won't, but try neways. Doing a warm reset brings you up into safe mode(you know the safe mode in windows comps?).

This is getting dated, but it might give you some suggestions. I ended up having to replace a motherboard, but there are some steps in between that might apply to your situation:

I suspect my PC may have suffered the same fate as jyhomson's (blown COM port) but, as my old palmtop was the only kit that used the COM port, the problem went away when I got my NR70V with its USB cradle.

USB does give problems, though, and it's usually at the Windows end. In the past, I've cured it by unplugging everything USB, uninstally all USB services in device manager, rebooting, letting all the native devices reinstall and then plug in my Clie cradle and HotSync.

Forcing Windows to rescan for hardware changes also sometimes fixes knackered USB ports.

I suspect the problem here is at the PC end. As a wild shot, just check there's no app starting up and trying to access HotSync (I had one app do that). Also check that USB is checked in the HotSync menu.

I dont think its anything like that. We also have a NX that hotsyncs perfectly in the same cradle. It seems to be a software problem with my NR-70. I did a hard reset and it then hotsync perfectly.

This has happened to me a couple of times, and reinstalling palm desktop over the old installation (e.g. you don't need to uninstall first) has solved the problem.

So vw_bugg, problem solved with a hard reset. Glad it's sorted. I had a problem a while back that allowed me to reset and restore, but it wouldn't HotSync again afterwards. Played around rebuilding an app at a time - wasn't the Clie at all, though. Removing a mis-behaving program from my PC had removed part of the Windows install/uninstall routines and, apparently, HotSync needs it. (Reinstalling the program, totally unrelated to anything Palm, and removing it a second time fixed it).

I'm having a similar problem. Which windows program did you have to reinstall?

Davidj,

In my case it was a freeware CD writer (CDWriterXP ISTR). I was trying it as a replacement for EasyCD v5 which had stopped working. Unfortunately, its (un)installer had a fault! I was restting and rebuilding my Clie to try and restore HotSync when I noticed the Windows update routine wasn't behaving properly. When I then found I couldn't unintall another program I went back through recent activities and the finger of suspicion fell on the aforementioned program - I reinstalled it, rebooted and uninstalled it and the HotSync problem was cured.

The most common HotSync issues are:

Over-clocking

Corrupted desktop PC USB driver.

Damaged USB port on the Clie or cradle.

Clash with an app on the Clie, such as a keyboard driver or hack

Recently added hardware such as an external disk drive, 6 in 1 card reader, or printer with card reading capability.

Okay heres all what i did. Wanting to avoid a full reinstall if at all possible, i used Zlauncher to move all programs to the card. Then moved all books hacks and known databases to temporary folder on card. Then Dumped the rest (If i really need any of it it can be reinstalled or copied from my current backup on my card). Did hardreset then moved stuf back: hacks books and important databases, and saved & unsaved preferences. Hotsynced and now all is fine.

Glad to hear your HotSyncing again. It doesn't take much to corrupt the RAM and not know it. Doing hard resets is always a lot of work, but sometimes necessary.;)

I had the problem again. This time i went into one of my file managers on my Palm and sorted by date modified. I looked at the newst files and decided to try to fix it by deleting one of these. I deleted "Hotsync loader"(I think thats what it was called) and the it seemed to hotsync fine. I hope that helps anyone else.

Hello! Welcome to Cliesource!

Yes youwill lose everything if you hard reset. There are three kinds of resets that exists.

1. Softreset: This is where you just push the reset button and nothing else. This is comparable to rebooting or restarting your computer. All data is kept.

2. System reset: This is where you push the reset button while also holding down the upscroll button. This is like starting you computer in safe mode. It prevents hacks and other system patches from loading. This will let you get into your palm if you are caught in a loop where the palm logo keeeps flashing. Again all data is kept.

3. Hardreset: This is where you push the reset button while also holding the power button down. When the palm logo pops up, relese the power button. You will then see "Erase all data? Yes=up NO=down" where obviosly you would push the upscroll button. Now Your PDA will load up as if you just took it out of the box. All data is lost.

With that said it is strongly recommended that you back up your PDA on your card and/or by Hotsyncing it to the computer before you hardreset.

I hope this helps. Feel free to send me an email or a private message by using the buttons right below.

Sincerley,
