Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on these forums for a few weeks now reading the buzz about the NZ 90. I just preordered one today and figured it was time to register and ask a question that deep down I've been asking myself all along.
How will my new $1,000 (nz 90 + wlan card) investment work with my Mac? I've inferred that most on here are Windows users, but I'm hoping for a shot in the dark.
Right now I have a Tungsten T that I sync up using HotSync and iSync, which syncs my calendars, to-do's, address book, etc with my Tungsten, T68i via bluetooth, laptop and .Mac account. If the NZ 90 uses Palm OS, why can't it just sync up with HotSync that I already have installed?
I know some more investment will be required to gain access to all of the new features of the NZ. For example, I know I will probably have to buy a USB card reader (only $30) to download my NZ's movies to my Mac. However, before I make the plunge and drop another $350 on Virtual PC and Windows XP to run over OS X, or before I buy MissingSync, I was wondering what everyone had to say.
Thanks in advance,
fly

Greetings fellow Mac user! You don't need Virtual PC. Some folks can get the Clie to sync with the Mac using the same Palm Desktop that came with your Tungsten T. If it doesn't work, then you'll need to get MissingSync. I use MissingSync because it mounts a Memory Stick on the desktop just as if it was a hard drive, and has great integration with iTunes and iPhoto. That way you don't need an external card reader.

... i have the same concern...but I am wondering if Missing-Sync works the same way on OSX with a japanese-NZ... any ideas? or will the japanese text just turn into pure jibberish upon Hot-sync/iSync?

THIS IS NOT 100% CERTAIN INFORMATION
(a pre release of the NZ was used for the test)
on a japanese site (clieclub.jp), they said that the NZ won't sync (or mount the MS) with mac computer neither OS9 nor OSX. the guys at markspace will have to modify their driver.

Also, MythoF...would you know if it is possible to reinstall an english-os to a japanese clie?
I am a foreigner stuck in japan...with lots of toys, but i cant understand half of whats going on:rolleyes:

hi fire... :-) I know the feeling. there are guys that re-flash their roms, but
1- it's illegal (you have to obtain an US ROM)
2- it's NOT supported by sony (if you burn your brand new CLIE, you're left with worth 800 bucks plastic, silicon, and some metals
3- it's highly risky. I know someone who tried it on his N700... no more N700...

that's interesting about not syncing...is it the same OS 5.0 as the NX? I wasn't aware that there were different versions. Hopefully markspace will make one for it soon. Otherwise I might break down and go to the college of computing at my school and try to find someone I can hire to make a driver. Those guys work for cheap I think -- job market for CS programmers is pretty slim. Maybe I can pay 'em in food.

I have an NZ and it's syncing with MacOSX perfectly. You'll need the latest beta of MissingSync though. Once you buy and install the released version you can download and beta update.
I should repeat, it only works with the beta version, and while it works for me, there could be bugs.

i can sync mac os x with nz90 out of the box.
you just need palm desktop 4, isync, and bluetooth.
the config was a bit involve but you only have to do it once

So you don't use MissingSync? I wasn't able to get it to work w/o the beta. Even w/ the current production version.

I couldn't sync to my TiBook via the cradle or Bluetooth until I used MissingSync.

I didn't know it was possible to sync w/out missing sync, not that it matters now that I'm a paying customer.

pdagal-what type of BT are you using with your TiBook?

I use the Belkin USB adapter, model F8T001. It works great, no drivers necessary under Jaguar.

Yer awesome, I was close to getting it but chickened out when the box said m$ and no Mac.
Saleman at "mostly Apple" store said the BT adaptor sold at Mac.com is backordered, they had three in and three out and have been on backorder since Feb 1.
Thanks again.

Hi, I'm running OSX, latest version, with MissingSync. The NZ syncs perfectly when it's in the cradle, but I can't get it to do a bluetooth sync. Any suggestions? The devices are linked, discoverable, etc. but I just keep getting a message that says: "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application." In connection settings I've checked "Bluetooth-PDA-sync-port". Can more than one port be selected?
Thanks.
