I have had my T675 for about 2 months now.

I use my clie to listen to MP3's and read books. Now my clie has developed a problem. There is no sound output from the speaker. No system beeps, alarms sounds etc. I have found out that at times when I remove the earphone cable, the clie speaker doesnt work. This was an intermitant problem, today the speaker refuses to ouput any sound.

I still have warranty on this, so I will go back to the store I bought it from.

Just wondering if anyone else has this kind of problem before.

Also, roughly how long does Sony UK take repairing faulty units?

Thanks.

I used to have a problem like this with my T665c. The earphones would work but the speaker wouldn't or create a buzzing sound only loud enough to hear when you place it to your ear. I did a few hard resets hoping that would solve it, it didn't at first and also after I resynced it. Though after being turned on and off it began to work again. Who knows what did it to break it and what did it to fix it since I don't think turning things off and on helps.

I hope this will help you, it worked for me.

Check this web page out from Sony: http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/t665c/softupdates/. It may solve your problem like it has for others.

I have the UK version of the T665 (ie the T675). The patch updates are only for the US version...

Should I still install?

The only differences are they have twice the FlashROM for storing extra languages(it's the multi-language version). I almost wish I had one for that reason alone. You should be safe, at worst the fixes may already be installed and make no difference. Also, if you don't know about JackFlash and JackSprat you may want to check them out to make use of that extra ROM space. Good Luck.

:D

PS Please do a hotsink first just to be safe.

Be careful with that that Memory Stick Audio Library Update Program. I tried it a few times and it made the audio player not detect the memory stick.

I'm using it right now without problems, but knowing Sony it wouldn't surprise me it may depend on your specific hardware revision. And since they don't give you that info do be careful. Do a hotsync, preferably witha complete backup (i.e. BackupBuddy). Then if you have problems roll back to the previous libraries. It's always best to backup first, I usually backup to the computer and memory stick before doing any major changes. Good luck.

This is *NOT* a software problem.

The problem is that the build quality of the headphone socket is, frankly, rubbish. They have used cheap switches which wear out very quickly :(

However, I find that if I get that problem, re-inserting the headphones, removing them, then waiting for a bit (The hadrware needs a couple of seconds to switch between Int and Ext speaker modes).
I just keep doing that until it works, and it usually sorts itself out after a few cycles.
You can try tapping it or shaking it about (GENTLY! :)) but I never had much luck doing that :/

If I was braver, I'd probably remove that part and put in a better quality switched stereo socket. But I'm not so I wont :)
