Hi,
I use a NX-70 with WL100 Card, and i have a big problem.
Hotsync, Internet and Email are working fine, but when I make a FTP download from my PC, then the transferspeed is verry, verry slow.
And all other programs that access the local network are slow too, like winhand, winvnc, mp3 download vie netfront.
if i connect from my friend via wlan/internet to my pc, the speed is much faster.
I compare the tcpip protocol download vie internet/lan and i found that the internet packets are 570 bytes and the lan packets are 1460 byte big.
Does anyone can tell me how to reduce the packet size? (I change the MTU but nothing hapen)
Or some other ideas?
how fast is your download from pc to clie?
and what is the best way to put mp3s to stick wireless?
thanks for any suggestions

funny, usually people try to increase the mtu for more efficiency... for example, your internet connection has to transmit twice in order to move as much data as your lan does...
something else is wrong, and i'll bet it is not your pda...
one thing is name resolution on tcp/ip.... for example if your dns servers are all out on the internet, then that will run fast, but if you do not have name resolution working well on your local lan, you will get exactly the same problem you are seeing...
try this: ping yahoo.com from your pda...
then ping the name of a workstation on your lan.... look at the times..
you can ping from the network connection screen (type in ping (space) then the name, or you can go to palmgear and download a ping program (search on ping, PLEASE do not ask me for the url)

Also check for other talkers on your WLAN besides just your Clie and PC. 802.11 is like a hub, so every talker has to wait their turn to transmit. A big file download can bring your network to a grinding halt. Also check for interference. Some devices like cordless phones have been known to use the same 2.4 GHz band as 802.11b.

actually, wifi is opportunity based, so there is no waiting for turns... that said, agressive use by one device can snag most of the bandwidth... the standard is defined to try to give everyone equal access, but a pda just does not process tcpip traffic as fast as a laptop...
did you try the tests i recommended?

My point wasn't that WiFi was token or turn-based, just that one node can't transmit on the same channel at the same time as another. I have a basic understanding of how CSMA/CA and CSMA/CD work. :D I was making a distinction between WiFi and an Ethernet switch which, being basically a collection of bridged ports, allow more than one talker to transmit on the wire at the same time. That's just one of dozens of reasons I don't like WiFi in the work place.
You know... the more I read his original email, the more I think that everything is working fine and it's just that his PC is hogging all the bandwidth while he's FTPing.

I've always got the impression that the TCP/IP stack in Clie is not very efficient.

Did you try it without the PowerSaveMode checked. Found in network prefs under advanced?

energy save mode is off, and i made a download via wlan with a notebook and this go faaaast. so i must be a clie problem.
i reduce the mrtu from 1492 to 572 and reducwe the bandwidh to 50000 byte/sec and it works better. but after transfer of 3-4 mb, the dl stops and it goes slow..
when i copy a long file directly to pda ram, i can increase to 100000 byte/sec.
i think the driver / clie was not build to transfer big files to it.
btw, i cant understand that there are no other user want to do the same.

I don't do large downloads, but when I had used AvantGo via WiFi, it took forever for a couple of megabytes.
