To download:
http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Clie-dev/file/CLIE_PalmSim_landscape.zip

Couple of fast facts:

1. Silk area can't be minimzed for "legacy" portrait mode Hi-Res+ Apps.
2. 3D Launcher is very cool.
3. Soft up-down button is available in the status bar area as an alternative to Jog-dial.
4. Soft Databook, Notepad, To-do and Address book shortcut buttons available at the bottom part of the 3D Launcher.
5. Bug found in lefty-mode (in the simulator), Apps utilizing Hi-Res+ like launcher and datebook will still be aligned to the left and create funny effects.

I wonder if this will be a problem with all landscape devices (UX, Zodiac, possible T3) until the programmers work on fixing it. I just say this because the Zodiac has an emulator that I was testing, and some apps (like the main launcher) have alignment problems with the VG area being on the left side. (I'm left handed, so the left VG area function is important to me.) So, this might be more than just a UX issue, I'm not sure though.

I tried various applications in this simulator - just copied them to MS/Palm/Launcher. One of these was AcidImage 2.8 - and guess what? It runs great on full screen in Landscape Mode (Wide Res+). Well, I'm surprised.
Seems like basic apps provided with simulator are old ones, made for generic PalmOS 5.x device - all without 'S' letter in version informations - not optimized for Sony.
Still no idea what does thingy above volume control icon.

Oups I did'nt see this thread...

You got the US and Japanese ROMS in the Simulator of the PUG UX-50 :)

I tried Some Softwares:

Acid Image 2.8:
Works perfectly in 480*320 as n1nsei saw it :)

ZLauncher:
Works in 480*320 but you need to "unlock" this capability...
Put a "wide" image on the memorystick (480*320 or wider) and preview it with Zlauncher explorer (long tap and preview)...
The first time the screen should remain in 320*320, but the second time it will go to 480*320...
Then choose it as the back image (long tap and back image)...
Then you gained the "480*320" capability
To toggle between both resolutions you just have to click on th green arrow on the bottom right of the bottom bar of ZLauncher...

If you go back to the 3D SONY Launcher you will lose the capability and you will have to do the trick again...

Agendus 6.12:
works on 320*320

Tennis 3D:
Crashes and "hard reset" due to "direct to screen" allocation ?

GTS Racing Challenge demo - runs smoothly, but in 'no armlets' mode: background and cars in hi-res, scenery in double-pixel. GTS Racing uses this trick to perform less calculations on NR's with Motorola CPU - so in UX simulator there could be some problems with proper CPU detection (PXA2xx vs Handheld Engine), or maybe with ARMlets execution?
These are just my 'educated guesses' ;)

Anyone knows what is the function of gadget above Volume Control icon?

Acidimage 2.8 works on Wide-Res+? I got to have a look now...

I was using an older version of Acidimage which support Hi-Res+....and I can't minimize the VG...got to check it again now...

not too sure about that...! but i rather think it's some simulator problem....! coz even CLIE launcher got that problem..!

No idea...
On some screenchots it was enabled and on others disabled...
I posted that on a french forum:

In one case the little thing is on and on Decuma off...

But why?

Slightly off-topic - but would you consider making Central European versions? :)

Do you mean, that will be interest on CE version?

Yes, I think there would be interest in CE versions. For example: I and couple of my friends (who own Clies) use PiLoc as the only reasonable software that enables Polish encoding and national characters on PalmOS. It is basically font changer + some encoding/conversion routines. Every time I want to change fonts (example: in latest iSilo version) thing I absolutely can not stand is that there are no polish characters in font sets. Imagine Address Book, Memo pad, e-books, documentation converted to iSilo, e-mails with strange chars instead of couple of letters VERY similar to accented characters in other European languages. Well, for sure some ppl would like to get CE fonts. And making them is indeed rather similar to, let's say - making french accented letters, so your extra-effort may be almost marginal ;)
Sorry for off-topic messages :)

BTW: Stone Age+ will not run under UX simulator (CPU detection again?).
Common PalmOS apps optimized for UX screen (WideRes+)have 'SX' letters added in version number (for Sony HiRes+ just 'S').

I just wanted to clarify the confusion about the "CPU-Detection" of the PalmOS-Simulators: the Simulators are called this way by purpose: they do _not_ emulate the target machine (except for the 68k processor), they "simulate". Every ARMlet loaded by an Clie application will not be emulated but an appropriate DLL (yes, a windows DLL) will be loaded from the host computer and THAT is executed. The Developer has to build this DLL via Visual C++ for example in order to test his ARMlets. So none of the ARM-enabled Applications will work except you happen to have the sourcecode and can therefore build those DLLs (just try Netfront for example, its completely ARMlet and therefore won't work).

Well, that makes the difference between 'simulator', and 'emulator', isn't it? I was unsure, but I felt that it may work on that way. So no armlets in simulator?

It seems that all of the Red Mercury apps that were just updated a few days ago were updates to add the Wide-Res+ support. AcidFreeCell works, but it doesn't take advantage of the area as good as it could. It just leaves a lot of open space.

That is the signal strength indicator for Wi-Fi.
