Help,

This may be a dumb question but here goes. I am pretty new to wireless but have managed to get a Dell Wireles Router, attach it to my Cable modem, and using two Dell USB Wireless Adapters, get mine and my wifes computer on the net. Now I want the same for my Clie NX. I bought the WLAN card, installed the software and configured as the book says. When I insert the card and Connect to the Network, I see it say Connecting, followed by connected. The WLAN light is blinking. I go to either Clie Mail or Netfront and try to either get mail or load a page and the light blinks like crazy. But No Page gets loaded and eventually Clie Mail says my pop.earthlink.net is not a valid POP address. What am I doinng wrong. I made the assumption that the Router also aacts as an Access Point. Is that wrong?

Please help or I will have to return the card.

Bob

what are the specifics of your setup (ip address, subnet, security, etc..) I have a similar setup and use the router as a gateway with no problem. My first instinct would be to check the ip address and subnet of your NX to see if it matches with the router (provided that you are using static addresses). It's hard to guess without more info though.

Try the following on your NX:

Profile: home
SSID: chernowlan
WEP: None
IP: 192.168.2.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Primary DNS: 207.69.188.185

Also make sure the NX WLAN is set for infrastructure

Still no luck. The WLAN lights blink like crazy as though it is getting data but then eventually times out. Could having the CFUTILITY drivers for my Ambicon CF Modem be interfering?

It's possible... I don't have any experience with the CFUTILITY drivers but I seem to remember reading something to that effect.

I'll check the settings on my router when I go home for lunch and try to come up with another configuration to try. In the meantime I'll see if I can find the thread about the CFUTILITY drivers that I was thinking of.

Well after removing the CFUTILITY it still did not work but I noticed that in either CLIE Mail or Netfront, if I supply the IP address of my POP server (mail) or the IP of GOOGLE, all works great. This leads me to think it might be DNS related.

Interesting. Definitely sounds like a DNS problem. Check the status of your desktop connections and see if they are using the same DNS.

Well, it really seems here are Wireless LAN Profs answering :-) Maybe one you can help me.

I found a kind of "Sniffer" on http://www.braunstein.de/pda/palm/handerawlan.html

Go down to "Applikationen", there you will find a link to a Handera / Yahoo Forum with a download of LANStatus (otherwise mail me at mrmacmax@mac.com, I will send it to you). It is working on OS 5 on my NX70 without any problems, so don't be afraid because it is a beta :-)

Well, my problem right now is to understand all the informations I can get from LAN Status like IP, Subnet, 1. & 2. DNS, Gateway etc. and be able to apply them to for example NetFront and its settings.

I was sitting in a hotel this morning, LAN Status could find this hotspot and showed lots of informations, but I couldn't use them because of beeing too stupid :-) If somebody can help me or can post screenshots or a guide, would be great.

While this tool does report back basic info, so will the Log option in Prefs/Network. Type ? then do a hard return to see your command options which includes "info" and "ping"

ClieMax,

If you're looking for some basic networking information you can try the linksys (http://www.linksys.com/edu/) website, though I am sure there are better resources out there. You may also want to browse through some of their manuals (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/befw11s4ug.pdf) as they often have setup tutorials.

I'll have to try out the app later on tonight. It looks like there is already some interest on one of the other threads.

Viel Glück!

Danke Cerin48 :-)

We should talk maybe beginning of next week cause of having no language problems. Can you send me your e-mail adress, please?! Seems you can help me and I will understand more in german than english.

Schönes Wochenende...
