Includes desktop photo album!!!! For $5, this feature alone is worth the upgrade. Here's more:
- Added Desktop catalog - SplashPhoto Desktop now stores images in a desktop catalog that synchronizes with the handheld.
- Unlimited categories - You can now create an unlimited number of categories (the old version limited you to 15).
- Faster - The scanning and caching has been improved to make SplashPhoto even faster.
- Friendlier - The Desktop automatically detects the capabilities of the handheld it is syncing with so the user doesn't have to know the resolution or bit-depth of their device and perform confusing configuration settings.
- JPGs on internal - All images are stored in JPG format on both external memory AND internal memory. This means that file sizes are significantly reduced (as much as 80%). The other benefit of this is that JPGs received via Exchange Manager (through an email application like Snappermail or Versamail, for example) can be stored on internal memory for those without a VFS card.
- Full size images - The Desktop software still allows you to crop images to fit the handheld display, but you can also install images at their full resolution if you want.
- Compatible with Palm Photos - For users of the Palm Zire71, SplashPhoto is compatible with the Palm Photos file format, enabling you to view Zire71 photos that are stored on internal memory (as well as on a card, where they are just stored as normal JPGs).
- Details View - This new view allows you to see a thumbnail image as well as category, location, size and dimensions. And you can directly modify the category and location in this view so you don't have to open the Image Details dialog.
- Improved Exchange Manager support - sending/receiving images via Exchange Manager has been improved to better support Snappermail and Versamail.

Any idea how long it will stay beta?

No, but this developer's beta's are usually rock solid. I haven't had a glitch all day and I've recategorized, renamed photo's, synced them to the desktop album at work and at home. This version is great!

Do not...I repeat...Do not install this upgrade if you ever want to view your pictures again. The viewing speed of both thumbnails and the pictures at full screen size (and that's with squishing the pictures down to 320x320 before I even installed them on my SJ-22) is at least 5 times slower than the old version of the program. I'm not kidding. And that's even with my SJ-22 overclocked to 48MHz when SplashPhoto is running!!
No thanks. I'm asking for my money back.

Guess you missed the CF driver deal.

It's blazing fast on my NX80 too, man it popped in so fast, it scared me. The screen blinked very briefly and there was all the pics instantly. All I can say is WOW!
BTW, when I come to think about it, most apps are always in beta, it's just a computer term thrown about. You don't have to pay for the beta and there is a 30 day trial. It worked so fast and Splash Data is a high quality developer, that springing for 5 bucks was worth it. Now I won't have to worry about the verson 4 upgrades.

Nope, not even interested in drag racing your NX80 in my T665!

Wow is all I can say, too. It turns out that the VERY slow display of the thumbnails is a one-time thing. It looks like it creates a cache file of them after you have (painfully) gone through and looked at all of them. But the displaying of a picture full screen is certainly not faster than v3.63, and is maybe only twice as slow. It also is more frustrating since all I get is a progress bar, and then poof, the picture shows up. With 3.63 it at least drew the picture from the top down as it was reading the file. All of my pictures (about 50 of them) are on my memory stick, which I'm sure is not helping.
When I installed a picture, after the first 50 had been processed through that elaborate hotsync process, the thumbnail for it seemed to show up quickly. Maybe something went wrong during the hotsync. That individual picture was installed to RAM, and not to the MS like the rest. Maybe that is the difference.
Anyway, I'm not impressed with the displying a whole picture speed. Maybe they optimized it for the fancy machines and forgot about us little guys. :)

That's entirely possible, I didn't question them. I had stumbled on it the other day when I was looking to update other stuff. I wasn't trying to brag or show off, just reported my findings with some enthusiasm :)

If it really was faster than the old version (on my machine) I'd be excited too! :)
Maybe it's just cuz it's a beta version (advertized as a beta version, that is). Maybe I'll let them keep my 5 bucks and see what happens.

You might check your available memory. I had a problem with that at one time which caused a lag when the pictures tried to load.
