Wow. Now that iSilo 4 has extensive support for fonts, what fonts do ebook readers prefer. Other than the default and perhaps Verdana and Bell MT,
I haven't seen any others that look acceptable for book reading.

Any others that might be nice for reading and easy on the eyes?

there was a nice looking project call DeepReader with font antialias that looked sooooo nice, but it seems it stopped... I was waiting for a final version to register :(

seems like it's still continuing, with some limitations, though.

How can I configure Palm Reader Pro to use fonts like this?

First, you have to download and install the Fontpak from Palm Digital Media. Then, I believe you have to make sure that the font you want to use is where ever the Palm Reader Pro app is. For example, on my Clie, all of my books ar on the memory stick, but my Palm Reader Pro is in RAM. To save precious RAM space, I have only loaded the font I want to use into RAM. The rest of the fonts from the font pak are kept on my Memory Stick.

My fav is deepreader, usign the beryllium font. My second choice is PalmReader Pro using Charter ITC.

MythoFactory: What are the "limitations" using deepreader? The only limitation I'm aware of is the lack of background color options.

The main limitation is not the fact of the Deepreader devs, I think.
It's simply the fact that it can't read PDM ebooks (the ones for PalmReader)
I also have problems to make it browse correctly my MemoryStick (some folders won't appear in the browser).
and finally, It doesn't support landscape display (very useful with a Hires+ device)

the fact that my Status Bar and Graffiti skins look all jammed is problematic, too; but it's my ego that is the problem...

I can understand the landscape screen on a HiRes+ - on my lowly T615 though, that really doesn't matter.

I wish you could read PDM books on different readers, but that isn't really going to happen with PalmDigitalMedia's permission.

I have noticed a few 'bugs' that mostly have to do with saving bookmarks and screen refreshes and such, but it's still the best looking reader out there.

I agree with you, I was using DeepReader on my N700C, and Landscape display didn't matter to me

I have read something in DeepReader's Faq about Palm non-disclosure of the PDM format, Maybe I'll mail them to ask for it... if enough of us do it, they may move (I'm not convinced of that myself, though)

As for it being the best looking reader I agree too, but it can't help if the only texts it can read are free texts or warez... It's sad because Zane can't do nothing about it, but that one point dumped deepreader from my RAM. For one I'm resolutely opposed to copyright infrigement (my eggs are in the same basket as theirs, after all ) and if you think strictly of user gain, you have to admit that PalmReader Pro, which can read PDM and DOC format even with a display not as nice as DeepReader, is a logic choice.

Fonts for Palm OS devices have always sort of ticked me off. For any given font, there are no styles at all (ie bold, italic). It would be great if PalmReaderPro could actually use a stylesheet, with different fonts for headers, titles, paragraphs and such. But even with the readers that do offer options for bold, italic, h1, h2, etc. the choices are pretty slim. Usually I end up with some sort of Frankenstein monstrosity of a document, because there is no Charter ITC bold. The only difference is in the size, and at least with the fonts offered by PDM, the division is too vast to make a size-based style sheet useful (12-16 & 18-24 is just too much of a step - I want something in between).

Mytho: I do get a lot of books from Project Gutenburg (I used to get them all there), but lately I've been buying at least one book every couple of weeks from PalmDigitalMedia. And if I'm revisiting a book I have on my (paper)shelf, I don't feel much guilt grabbing a scanned text file from the web so I can read it in bed with the light off. So I jump between readers depending on the source of the text.
