I just purchased a USB hotsync charger cable for my Sony SJ-30. Based on some of the other threads here, I'm not expecting the charging to be that fast. That's OK, since I want it mostly for the charging. I didn't want to buy the AC or car adapter charger, since I don't think I need it right now.

My question, is if I want to get an AC adapter or car charger in the future, can I go with any of those that have a USB connector on them? It looks like they all have a USB type connector -- do they have to match brands? Anyone done this before?

I haven't seen any chargers or power cables with a USB connector on it. Maybe you are a bit confused with the HotSync connector on the bottom of the Clie?

Now the combo HotSync/USB powered cable is okay. The small USB connector goes to the PC and the other big end goes to the HotSync connector on the the Clie.

A normal USB cable, just has two small connectors on it.

The alternate chargers and adapters just have the regular HotSync cable type plug.

normally, the car adapter puts out 5 volts on the usb side... i have several, and the power supplies, either ac, or the cigar lighter seem interchangeable.... they all supply 5 volts to the usb, and the unit charges.. some do not seem to put out as much current, and that's probably why charging seems to take longer...
