Maybe they got cold feet or it's just about ready. Then there was the potential OS5.2 update looming. Send them an email and ask.

It's still on the brayder.com home page:

"PalmOS 5 support is being worked on right now. We expect to have updated versions of the products before the end of January."

So that means we should expect something today!!!! Woohoo!!!!

I have no idea how I could not get to that page... and now I can... I see the message is still up there... maybe tomorrow... or LauncherX redux... lol

man, i hope not. waiting 6 months for launcher x was painful enough, since the payoff wasn't worth it. the delay forced me to use zlauncher which i love. just wished there was someone else developing ROM hacks.

you think the upgrades will be free to registered users? figure it is a substantial update for OS 5 devices.

Perhaps not too much cause the program did not cost too much to begin with... but you do need to get two of them... now I hope not too much...

Brayder's latest policy is you get free upgrades for a set period, I believe it's 6 months. So, if you purchased the old versions in the last 6 months, you get the new version free. If not, you have to completely repurchase. Normally, I wouldn't like that kind of policy, but Jacksprat and Jackflash for a different device is really completely different software, so they have to start from scratch every time.

I suppose so. But JackSprat really is a one time buy and use product. I bought it for my old N710, wiped the ROM files, used it for a year, then reinstalled the files before selling it on ebay :)

Although I'm not really complaining, cause if they do come out with these updates today or really soon, I'll definitely be shelling out money for them. Even though JackSprat was always a beta!

I am waiting JackSprat... End of January has passed by and there is not even a beta of JackSprat oder Jackflash for the Clie NX70. Does someone know about the developement status of the program? Because of short memory of NX and the multilingual flash-rom Jacksprat would be very helpful (I would even buy a beta again like in times of the M505 ..;)  )

I had a weird experience with JackSprat on my NR70. Every time I stripped my ROM, weird problems would start. Random crashes, MSImport would lock up halfway copying files (reproducible -- I could copy several MP3s just fine without stripping the ROM, but after stripping it, it would lock up halfway on a SINGLE ONE), and lots of other stuff. Very weird. Worked fine with my N750, and with my T600, and my T650, but not the NR. Go figure? Hope it works better for you NX people.

Oh man, I'm just waiting for the day when Brayder releases this OS5 compatible version so I can spend hours trying to fix my Clie after messing around with it, having it crash and all that good stuff all of us get a kick out of! And I really do mean that! So let us have it Brayder.

I wrote to Brayder recently (two days ago) and they replied with a fast response (same day). They have confirmed that the OS5 version of JackFlash will be out approximately within a couple of weeks and were delayed by unforseen complexities. I'm guessing JackSprat will follow soon after. Hope that resets some people's expectations ... At the very least, let's be reassured that the best people are on the job ... :) Cheers ...

I'll start planning now to set aside a couple of hours in a couple of weeks to mess with my clie, get frustrated, perform a hard-reset, reinstall everything, get the new jackflash/sprat to work, smile, show-off to my girlfriend, then search for another app that might takes some more of my time :) Why do we like doing what we do?

-pN I used it on my NR as well, and never had a single problem. I wonder if it's because we deleted different apps.

Because I had no problems with both programs in the past i am looking forward to the new OS5/ NX release !

Rldunn - that's possible. I took out everything non-critical (including MS Gate and MS Autorun and such) and most of the regular apps (exluding To Do and Mail, since I've had associated 3rd party apps screw up on me if the built-in ones were not present). Basically, the demos went, and a few other useless things. Things *shouldn't* have been weird, but they were. :\

Does anyone have any idea as to which apps can be safely removed from the NR70? The ClieDemos is an easy one to figure out. The ones that I am not sure about are MSImport, MSAutoRun, and a few more just to get started. I would appreciate any help in this area. I have been searching on the threads and have not been able to pinpoint an answer.

BTW. I just bought my NR70V Saturday and had everything working fine on my T615C. I have a backup on my MS128.

Thanks for any help. :)

Leave MS import, it's very important to move files to a memory stick and is light years faster than hotsyncing to the MS. I deleted autorun, card info, g movie, pocket pg and photostand (replacing the last 3 with 3rd party apps) without any problems. I also deleted the hard button apps and replaced them with the NX versions of the apps. I don't reccommend this unless you REALLY want to have hi-res+ hard button apps, because that's the only difference between the 2.

For $15 you can get a USB mem stick reader. I find this to be a better solution than MS Import because it allows me to attach the mem stick to any machine rather than just ones that have the cradle and sony software installed.

Just my 2 cents.

That is a great idea I just hope that it reads Sony type MS.
I do not need the reader since my other computer is a Sony Vaio and it has the reader built right in.
Once again thank you for the suggestion it is a very good one.:)

When your transfering 128mb of files, MS Import is faster than most readers. The only one that comes close is if a PCMCIA adapter is used.

Messing with files in ROM voids the warranty and Sony has been adamant about it. Know what your doing as I don't know if any permanent harm can come from it.

On their website it says:
PalmOS 5 Support Update Feb 7, 2003
PalmOS 5 support is closer. We have JackFlash working in-house. Once JackSprat is complete we will release beta versions.

Hmmm, it's been almost 3 weeks and no updates. They must have run into problems. I hope they get it out before PalmOS 5 is phased out!

If you get Jacksprat and create a backup from new so that you can replace everything to sell on, ad then you rip all the rubbish out and replace it with decent apps, and create another backup so you have a before and after, how do you backup all the apps you have placed in Flash ROM?

Jackflash has stored most of the things I want to use in Flash but now I want a backup of that so I can reset to my favourite default setup in event of disaster, but if I back the ROM using Jacksprat it only saves the ROM that it left behind during stripping, and PiBackup saves all the RAM soft but none of the Flash,

so I have ended up with a partial backup of of my ROM/Flash/RAM,

anyone have a solution for this?

I know I can Hard Reset at the moment and do the Restore to get back to my default settings, but I cannot restore the whole setup.

Yeah, but if you recover from a backup before sending the unit to Sony, they don't really know. I've had my unit warrantied four times so far (stupid ****ing Memory stick problem / dead pixels / etc), but they never complained (yet a friend of mine, having JackFlashed a few apps into his flash (not even JackSprat!) and requested warranty service on his MS slot, was given crap for it .. but he wasn't the kind to take it, so they fixed it anyway).

Cheers,

Ok, so let me see if I get this straight. Does this mean that once the new beta version of JackSprat is complete, THEN they'll release a new OS5 BETA version? Hasent JackSPrat been in beta for at least 6 months now??

Sounds like a non-committal comment to me.
