to spend $800, and wont you be paranoid, that you will drop it, or it get banged in your pocket and the display breaks?
That is a lot of money to lose...

not if you keep it in a padded backpack!!! (a case would be too small)!

No more nervous than people probably worry about bumping their 10k$ rolex against a building or something...
Dad always told me if you have to 'think' about buying something, you probably shouldn't...you should either buy it, or not.
An iPAQ with built in wireless, an SD card, and a PCMCIA expansion slot on it runs about 1k$...so 800$ isn't such a stretch.
I'll be more apt to purchase PDA insurance on this device...but given I've only had two pda drops, neither of which is fatal, I'm relatively certain that this won't be an issue.

I agree Ken,
some of the IPAQ's are in this price range, ...are you scared to carry a laptop?? I see people with $1500-$5000 dollar labtops and they bring them on the Bus, carry them to and from the coffee shops, and bookstores,etc.. do they worry about dropping them? or someone stealing them? Why all the fuss over this?? My watch is a $500 watch, I wear it everyday w/o worry of it getting destroyed. Fear of dropping my PDA won't prevent me from buying a $200 model or an $800 model... you can drop both just as easily.

lot easier for me to drop my pda, then it is a laptop IMO

If you are worried about dropping and breaking an electronic device that you buy, then you would never buy ANYTHING. Seriously, do you worry about stepping on the remote to your TV? How about dropping your cell phone? I fully expect no device to be indestuctible and take the appropriate precautions. But if I stress too much about loosing or breaking one, then it defeats the purpose of having it. That being said, I won't be buying the NZ, but not for fear of breaking it. It's just not what I want in a PDA. If it had the features I wanted, I wouldn't care if it cost $1000, I'd still carry it around and use it like I have every other PDA.

Yeah if I drop my cell phone, remote, or anything like that is well under $50 or so...no big loss...drop the pda and screen breaks we are talking $800 big difference...
my point is pda is a lot more prone to dropping, and breaking...then most other devices...why are most people on this forum so paranoid about getting a screen protector?

nicely stated "medcat19"...
Davey19.. so all your electronic devices are under $50? what kind of PDA do you use??
I can't remember the last time I dropped an electronic device thus ruining it. Should I be paranoid of spilling my drink on my desk only to have the liquid ruin my $500 desk's finish then spilling into my CPU ruining my $2500 G4? Good lord, I drive my $25,000 car every day and am not paranoind about someone hitting it, a rock flying into it's windshield, or grocery cart hitting it,etc..
Hell, my life is worth more than money and I leave the house everyday.. should I stay home inside a 4' thick steal box just in case something might happen to my priceless body?? when does it end??? This is a Sony PDA, not the "Mona Lisa".

Am i worried? Hell no. That's what frequent synchs and insurance is for :)
I break it - I'm back up and running inside of a day. I take plenty of precautions like I would with anything else, but I don't wear gloves, and keep it in a hermetically sealed container.

As you can imagine, since I do all the PDA reviews for our site, I've carried around more PDAs than I have fingers and toes. I'm not the most coordinated individual, and am sometimes absent minded. Yet I've never dropped and damaged, sat on or left behind or otherwise toasted a PDA. Heck, I used to worry I'd loose styli, but never once so far in 5 years. I just don't worry about it any more.

What insurance would cover if you break your screen?
I know Best Buy extended warratny wont cover it
