For the best of my knowledge there is only one app out there to encrypt selected files on your MS. Itīs called SecureCard and you can download a trial version on this site:

http://www.trustdigital.com/prod10.htm

PDADefense lets you encryt your MS, but only all files at once. With 128Megs you have to have 4 hours to wait. (Do you want to encrypt your MP3 files?:D )

Doesn't BackupBuddy VFS encrypt your files too?

BBVFS encrypts your backup files, but not the files you store on the MS anyway.

I would just delete some unused ROM apps with JackSprat (I was able to free up about 1.5MB), fill up the FlashROM space to the brim with RAM apps (my FlashROM has 0K free memory left), move non-sensitive apps like games to MS, and use the RAM for storing the sensitive data. This method of data storing is not only secured, but also the data will backup to your PC every time you HotSync.

PDA Defense emailed me some info about their OS5 version.

Michael,

We designed the current public beta www.pdadefense.com/OS5beta.asp for the Tungsten T, but it does still work on the Sony Clie NX series. However, do to the enhancements that Sony has made to the OS, PDA Defense
has not been made to be fully compatible.

We have not heard of any problems from users when protecting their memory cards. As long as the memory sticks are VFS compatible, it should work.

However, you will probably experience the same restriction as the OS 4 Sony Clie devices have when dealing with memory sticks. PDA Defense has difficulty with encryption/decryption on the fly with memory sticks. This then means that you may have to unprotect the card before using it.

We will be releasing a new beta version for OS 5 very soon which handles encryption on memory cards very different from the current public beta. You can sign up at the form indicated above, and wait for an email from us letting you know that the new beta is available. Or download the current beta and give it a try.

Please let us know any questions/comments/problems you have while testing the public beta of PDA Defense on your Sony Clie NX device.

I have used PD Defense on my old M505 and old TT and the card encryption worked very well. If you remove the card then put it back in it requires the password to access. Simple and if you lose the PDA a bomb goes off and wipes the PDA & card.
