HI all.. just picked up my NX80.. love it, except that I think I am having problems with the CF slot.. I've read through some fo the threads here, but am getting confused cos of all the different model numbers.

1. Should I be installing any other drivers/updates to get my CF slot to work for normal CF data cards I have a Sandisk 64 MB card which I was hoping to use with it.

2. When I try Data Import from Clie - it says Card not detected.. although the card is visible using Card Info and the bundled file management software.

3. When using (Desktop) Data Export, it says also that there is no media present although does recognise the removable storage device.

4. Can movies and MP3s be played from the CF card or should I install Mini's thing for that - in which case I am presuming I need to have at least one MS for this to work?

5. Flash apps/videos can be stored on CF?

Would appreciate some help... I hate reinstaling PCs or new gadgets.. they're all so confusing.. but then again, isn't that half the fun!?

Hi boooooort,

Haven't tried using data import but have been using the CF slot to play mp3's and movies. You don't need a new driver. All you need is to patch the Audio and Movie Players using mini's patch.

http://usagiya.g-com.ne.jp/mini/nx80vpatchEN.htm

It works!!! Just a couple of things though:

1. When playing movies in MQV format. Don't use the slider. Well you can use it as long as you stop the movie your playing first.

2. Somehow, the patched apps can only recognize mp3s / movies from CF. To use MS again, you must use the Un-patched apps.

Hope this helps

Which clie or pda did you upgrade from? install the latest Palm desktop OS from the supplied CD-rom and all the Memory stick and other drivers within that CD-Rom. This should solve your problem in question 2.. Hotsyncing directly to your previous username/profile is a definite NO NO if you were not previously using a Palm OS 5.0 Clie. Only sync your datebook, address book, to do list and memopad with the new Clie. Clear your back up folder and re install your old programs one by one. Make sure that they are all OS 5 compliant. Worry about your CF card later...

2. When I try Data Import from Clie - it says Card not detected.. although the card is visible using Card Info and the bundled file management software. Try your data import again after u install all the suppplied drivers...

3. When using (Desktop) Data Export, it says also that there is no media present although does recognise the removable storage device. same answer as question 2.... however...have you tried using Data Export and Data import with a memory stick to check if they work?

4. Can movies and MP3s be played from the CF card or should I install Mini's thing for that - in which case I am presuming I need to have at least one MS for this to work? You need Mini's patch to play movies and mp3s from CF. Other apps and files can be used directly from the CF card without any patches.

5. Flash apps/videos can be stored on CF?
I've never tried running flash files from CF b4...

Initially no, but the Sony multimedia apps will not work with the NX80 CF driver. Later once your CF card is working, then you can venture into using the hacked apps to work with the CF.

2. When I try Data Import from Clie - it says Card not detected.. although the card is visible using Card Info and the bundled file management software.

Make sure that in the upper right hand corner you have selected CF, not MS. When you insert the CF card, you should get the validation beeps! One item is the CF card MAY need reformatting in the Clie for it to work properly.

3. When using (Desktop) Data Export, it says also that there is no media present although does recognise the removable storage device.

Did you enable Data Import first on the Clie, before running Data Export? A tip, I never ever use Data Export. I use Windows Explorer on the desktop PC. It should show up in Windows Explorer(Windows file manager) as an external disk drive with it's own drive letter.

4. Can movies and MP3s be played from the CF card or should I install Mini's thing for that - in which case I am presuming I need to have at least one MS for this to work?

Yes, but before you get that far, you need to get basic functionality with the CF card. Additionally, you should be able to use Clie Files on the Clie to access the CF card. Clie Files is the desktop PC's counterpart as a file manager for the Clie. Please remember to walk before you can run ;)

5. Flash apps/videos can be stored on CF?

Yes! Another tip, whatever folders are used on the memory stick, need to be mirrored to the CF card, applicable to Sony's apps mostly. For launching apps, use the same Palm-Launcher folder on the CF as it is on the memory stick. Clie Files has a bug in it, it has trouble differentiating folders with the same name on both cards.

Of course, isn't that why you got a Clie :D?

Thanks all for your help.. but I think i might invest in a MS card.. seems like a far easier option.
