If you're planning on playing around with the ROM on your device you're strongly adviced on doing a backup beforehand. If you're using one of Brayders products to do so, a backup of the ROM is part of the procedure.

Advanced backup has a hide rom feature, that may allow you to back them up if it is disabled, if you download the demo you'll be able to check.

My question is, "Is it possible to delete something from ROM that a hard reset wouldn't restore?"

As I am afraid I will damage my NX73V to an unrecoverable stage .... even do with hard reset..some programs are still cannot restored.. I am afraid I will deelet some ROM files...so maybe after doing hard reset--> useless?
can I delete ROM files?

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve. I assumed you were either using JackSprat or JackFlash - both from Brayder (http://www.brayder.com/) to free up ROM. If you will use one of their products a backup of your ROM will be made which you should store on your harddrive, CD-ROM or something. If something goes wrong or you just would like to set the device back to the factory ROM you can restore your original ROM. But of course things can go wrong.. Though there are many users who did this and everything worked fine.
I myself did this with an NR70v once, freed up a lot of flash ROM and restored it back to the factory ROM because I was selling the unit again. No problems at all.

thanks first.
do u mean that , your way to restore it back to the factory ROM is by using hard reset or just use the program to restore?

Ok, normally you won't be able to do anything wrong or delete anything which you can not restore with a hard reset.
As far as I know it would be very hard or not possible at all to change or delete things without any add on tools or apps.
So, don't worry, the average user won't be able to do something terribly wrong which would permament. ;)

First of all, a hard reset does not restore anything in ROM. In fact a hard reset restores the RAM from ROM.
Secondly Jacksprat, the program necessary to remove built-in files from the ROM does not work with any OS5 Clies. This includes the NX60/70/73/80, NZ90 and TG50. So even if you wanted to you can't delete the built-in files from the ROM on Sony OS5 devices.
The best you can do at the moment, and probably ever, is use the free space in the ROM using Jackflash.
Unforutnately the new NX's are currently not supported by Jackflash either. It seems that Sony may have protected the flash rom so that users cannot access it. I believe Brayder is working on this, but who knows if they will be successful.
Thus, seeing as you have the NX73, you cannot do anything to damage or modify the ROM at this point so there is no need to worry about backing it up because you wouldn't be able to restore it even if you could.

Yes, Alistar sums it up very nicely :D!
Just worry about enjoying your Clie.
Of course it's recommended to make backup copies of your memory stick to the desktop PC's hard drive. Additionally use MS Backup, to backup the Clie's RAM files. Do NOT rely on the Palm Desktop to reliably backup the Clie!!!
