I used to use Datebk5.?
but am currently trying out the demo for Agendus Pro, which is very nice but one feature I miss is the ability to set up untimed floating appointments
Does anyone know if there is anything like this available in Agendus that I haven't found yet?
The only thing close that I can find is ToDo's set with Advance-All
anyone know of anything different?

As far as I know, floating events are not available in Agendus, too bad for them, I'll keep my Datebk5!!!

This is probably a dumb question, and slightly off topic, but what is a floating event, and how does it differ from a to-do?

Floating events are similar to Todos in that you check them off when they are done. they have no priority and they don't have a due date. However, they are scheduled like a regular appointment. So they can have time and duration information. For example, I go grocery shopping at around the same time when I need to go. When I see there are things I need to buy, I use a floating event from a template called "Go Grocery Shopping" that automatically is scheduled at 6pm-6:30pm. If I chose not to go, it will "float" to the next day so I see it as scheduled at 6pm-6:30pm on the new day. And I just check it off when I finish. Another way I use them is when I have a package that is supposed to arrive. I add an unscheduled floating event that tells me that. If it fails to arrive on the expected day, it floats to the next day.
Admittedly, with the number of enhancements to the Todo list that Datebk5 has added in the last few releases, the floating event has become less important to use. Now, you can add many of the attributes of a event to a todo, like alarms, colors, fonts, and repeats. But I still find floating events useful when you need a todo with more time information than just an alarm time.

Same here. Another DateBk5 feature I use a lot and I don't think it has been incorporated into Agendus is the LIST view.

Yes, I believe there is a list view in Agendus. Agendus has gotten a lot better in the last couple of upgrades. I used to use Datebk5 but I don't need all that it does. Plus, I really like the implementation of the integrated mail in Agendus Pro. I'll keep DB5 around but seriously doubt I'll switch back.

I'll have to check Agendus out again. The last I checked (a couple of months ago) there was a way to view up to about 30 days in a list-type view, but not like view ALL appointments (all past and future) as in the DateBk5 LIST view. Unless I overlooked it which is highly likely. ;) Hope they have added it.

I see what you mean. No there isn't a way to view "all" of your appointments in a list view but I never needed something like that so it never dawned on me. The newer pro version added some nice views.

There is a little 7k app called ListView (http://www.thepalmtree.com/datelist.htm) which does allow one to view ALL appointments, but it is nice to have it integrated as in DateBk5. Seems it would be easy for the developer of Agendus to implement. Oh well. :(

What I use in Agendus for such stuff is the "convert to..." commands.
When I have an upcoming service call but no appointment yet, I enter it as a to-do. Once I know the time/date, I convert the to-do to a meeting.
It's not quite the same as a floating event (as I remember from the trial of DateBk5), but works pretty well for myself.

Just create a to-do with no date. You can can always view it in day-view.

Does Agendus have templates? That's one of Datebk5's best features.

No it doesn't but after I set them up, I never used them. How many doctors appts do I have in a year. It is a nice feature but for me it's too much. Kind of like Zlauncher.

Last time I followed this line of discussion someone pointed out Beyond Contacts from DataViz, which so matched my use of Outlook (and integrated with Outlook on the desktop) that I abandond by registered version of Agendus & gave up on my trial of DateBk.
If you need to maintain multiple category assigments for your contacts (as I do), Beyond Contacts if for you. So too if you maintain multiple task lists, multiple calendars ... A very capable program that is pricey but not terrible if you buy it with the Documents to Go package.

I've just started, after a few years, to use templates and man are they useful. I agree that looking up how many doctors appointments is not useful to me, but having a template that automatically Creates an appointment with an alarm, two hours in advance, a medical icon, and put in the "appointments" category, with a link to the doctors address record is very useful.
Right now I am in a rediscovery phase with DB5, and am finding it can do a myriad of things I'd never thought of before.
As always, the debate rages, on. If you are someone who needs heavy contact management, Agendus is probably better for you. However if you want some really flexible time management software, DB5 is it.

Anyone know if you can use the black and white icons for Agendus on a color device? On the DateBk products you can. The reason I ask is that I have a Visor and an SJ30 and I switch between them quite a bit, just for the fun of it. Let's say that I setup Agendus on the Visor with black and white icons, then switch to the SJ30, will it work with those black and white icons? I would hate to then have to do the setup again with the color icons. ;)
