Cliesource seems to need active moderators lately. But my rule of thumb is that the last person you want in power is the person who asks for it. So neither of you get my vote. Sorry.

I agree on the need for more active mods.

yeah, active mods will be good.

From my observations, it appears that people who actively participate in these forums and provide timely and accurate information without flaming or belittling mambers (and guests) seem to be placed in the moderator status. For instance, it appears that **yellowrose** has recently been given moderator status. She seems to always provide concise and friendly answers and start useful and informative posts.

So, if you want to be a moderator in my opinion, browse the forums regularly, answer questions as best and accurately as you can, don't flame or troll, and provide us with good and useful information about Clies and other related topics.

Best of luck to you, :)

David

Thanks to everyone for your vote and support! :D However, I feel that there are many more members here that posses much more knowledge about the Palm OS and Clies than I have amassed thus far. The majority of what I have learned, I have learned from right here in my community of Clie enthusiasts. Maybe someday I'll be a Mod, just not ready for it yet. :)

Thanks,

David

well, knowledge rules ME out.... ;) though I think the requirement to be born on this planet also rules me out. :p

Sorry, to get off-topic, but exiii, I'm trying to figure out your location. Is it Utah? And your name, is that palmiiixe backwards? Just curious.

seems there are 2 issues here:

how can one help out on cliesource (being a mod is one way, maybe providing reviews is another, etc)

and

how does one become a mod (and here are are differing thoughts)

perhaps the mods/owners can let people know how they can help out on the source (if needed, and besides being a mod or everyday helpful posts)

and explain how for example, yellowrose became a mod - was she asked or did she ask? the critieria and selection should be consistent.

Um.. you want to help out? Send money :D (the little donate box on the home page)

I think the mods here are doing a great job, BTW

you have GOT to be kidding... this is not EOE issues here, this is volunteer work, no pay, little respect, and lots of trouble. The owners don't have time to take a poll of the whole population of CS. Generally there are people they come to know that assist others or them, its a spontaneous situation, not a resume review board.

Volunteer work goes like this:
A) of the people who want to do the job
B) there are a certain number who CAN do do the job
C) of the people who can do it, there are a certain number who can be reliable and dependable.

anyhow my two cents, but I see no need for explanations.... I teased Yellowrose and the other Mods/Owners when she became mod, but that was purely in fun. :) I've had the job, and though I miss it at times, I don't miss it at the same time. :)

But you can do better than that. Those locators should almost put you in my neighborhood. I won't give you my address though. ;)

And no, exiii is not IIIxe backwards. In fact, this online persona predates Palm altogether. It started out as a roman-numeralish EXIII (which was too pretentious for boards), became Exiii when it was clear that it was my new "name". But Exiii didn't look right, so it is now just exiii.

What I'm uncertain of though is how to pronounce it.

Oh, I don't want your address. :D lol. I always just thought of it as exiii [ehx-ee]. I know that doesn't make sense, but that's how I think of it. hehe.

the question was not meant to be a knock on yellowrose or the definition of volunteer.

it was mean to address was is implied in an earlier thread - does one normally ask to be a mod, or do the mods ask the person?

the volunteer note was because the very first original posts says they want to help out. there may more than one way to help than being a mod, donating money, writing reviews, writing a faq section, etc.

I agree the site needs some more active moderation, and administration. If a call for moderators and/or coadmins was made, I'd likely throw my name into the ring, but I don't think it's ever good to request becoming a mod when it hasn't been requested.

Really this thread should be moved to the site comments section. Lots of threads are not sticking to the topical area they're posted in but very few get moved.

i think they are active enough. even got a warning from yellow rose for posting 2 messages consecutively in the same forum which is ok. this is one of the best forums ive participated in so far, and i promise that when you elect me to be the new mod of this forum, i will lower the prices of software and handhelds....LOL :)

oh, and i vote for DaveTN once more for his humility ;)

Thank You Redtani for your kind words and confidence. It's reasons like this that I am so very glad to be a member of this community. :)

knowing how to hold ones tongue is probably the best qualification for being a Mod.

LOL! :D

You know, I think many of you would be terrific moderators. I've recently gotten a j-o-b, so I can't be here as much as previously. :( I have to say, though, it really DOES help out when you click the 'Report post to moderator' button . . . I don't read every thread . . . I can't (I can't speak for the other mods). If any of you see anything out of line, PLEASE DO report it (and my personal thanks to those who do--you know who you are!) . . . whether it's a personal attack, somebody posting warez, a thread in the 'wrong' forum or whatever. Your help is always welcome, and trust me, IT HELPS... if everybody 'helps' a little, this site will continue to remain THE best SOURCE for Clie info . . . :D

(And I've gotten SUCH a geeky job! I program cell phones all day! The Kyocera 7135 is WAY cool!)
