For those of you (like me) who want built in WiFi, which would you choose, the UX50 or the Tungsten C and why?

I had a Tungsten C for a month or so but when the time came to pass it back, I wasn't too sad. The Wi-Fi range was simply inadequate for my needs. It could reach my living room but not my back porch. As I am frequently on the potch, I got tired of having to walk inside to check my email. And obviously I couldn't surf while outside.
The NX80V I just tested had a much better range. Heck, it reached all the way to my mailbox. (I could get my mail and my email simultaneously :) ) If the UX50 delivers the same range, it is the device for me.

So what you're telling me is that the Wi-Fi range in the Tungsten C probably wouldn't be good enough to access the Verizon hot spots in Manhattan unless I was right next to them. That's the main reason I want a PDA with built-in Wi-Fi, so that I can access the hot spots. I guess I'll wait to see what the Wi-Fi range of the UX50 is before I purchase one.

Yeah, the wifi range of the NX80V is really amazing. The battery life is also much better than the earlier NX's, but still not as good as the T|C which has a massive battery. If the UX50 has the same range as the NX80v, then I will be impressed. However, I'm skeptical about the UX's battery performance...

The variable cpu frequency might have a possitive effect. But only a 'objective' (whatever that may be) comparison will clarify this.

For you maybe, I am not interested in the TC either. Remember, the UX is for a niche market. For those who want to wardrive, get something else that has a "T" form factor. Something will be out soon enough, I know we all get impatient. He-he, I just picked up the NX80, until the UX comes out. The UX is more what I want for my usage, but I admit it's not for everyone.

T|C for me. I like the larger built-in memory and keyboard. (the keyboard is not for everyone, but I happen to like it).
WIFI range works fine in my house, although I admit that my NX70 with wifi card seems to have a better range. But for my use, it's the same difference-I don't use it outside, and the T|C picks up a signal everywhere inside just fine.

I can not give up the Hi-res+ screens of my NX. But having 51 Meg of Ram available like on the T|C, would be a dream come true. Personally, I'm waiting on the OS 6 models to start coming out.

i currently hv a T|C. i kinda like it and the wifi range is not an issue to me. 400Mhz is really great and everyone's who's used it speak highly of the speed.
however, i love the 480x320 hires screen from sony. i used to own an NR70V ... great screen.
for me the issue would be 400Mhz, 64Meg vs 480x320 screen, 16 Meg? & 100+Mhz. tough choice. especially when i frequently use the wifi for surfing the net. 480x320 would be superb.

From those two, I'd probably still lean towards the Sony. For myself I'm still wanting to get more info on battery life and performance before I jump on the bandwagon.
Battery life is one of the things that made me start looking at the NX80 seriously. I like the idea of the UX50's expanded memory and battery pack, but the battery pack is a tad expensive, and it sounds like the memory will come with too many restrictions. If the interface is fast, smooth, and neat though... And if the battery lasts a decent amount of time in REAL usage (Not the 10 minutes or whatever usage per day they claim on some of the specs...) who knows, I may change my mind.

I currently use a T|C and won't go back to anything that has poor battery life or less than 32MB memory. Since there is an add-on battery pack for the UX, I might be interested in the series if a UX comes out with 32MB or more of user-accessible real memory.

It will: 16+29=45Mb.

Sony things are alwayz expensive ... and have no 2nd hand value ... i'm still stuck with a sony battery pack for the NR70V today.

I heard the WiFi range on the C is unacceptable.

There are two reasons I don't have a T|C right now. First, the WiFi range is reported poor, and second, no stereo on the headphone jack.
This isn't, to me, just a communications device. I travel way too much, and being able to enjoy music and movies on it is a prime goal. And yes, I have an MP3 player, but it is tiny, not expandable, and doesn't do movies.
