View Full Version : TG50 screen quality..
.. is pretty good and especially the backlit
I don't know how you guys, but I'm using it with backlight set at 1% almost all the time!
I'm really surprised
e.g. I used my sj30 with backlight set at 60%
so I'm pretty happy with it :-)
and also the battery last much longer

Heh, I feel the same way too. The 100% is crystal clear. I put it at 100% all the time for wow factor :)
I also only set the brightness level to the minimum and it still is very bright. Much brigher than my old T615C. I also get the 'stage lights' effect at the bottom of the screen but it doesn't really bother me at all.

Yes..................but it is too bright for me to read in Night...........
X destruction: same here :-)
and people are always amazed how bright and crips the screen is
and when I show them some mpeg or kinoma movie they cannot belive what the small thing can do
after I contiu to show them picsel, native documents, voicerecorder and inet capabilities :-) I already catched 3 collegues to buy a palm os device for that wow effect eventhough they wanted to buy PPC!
s360clie: that's true..

not to mention the BT light is good for signaling when your car breaks down on highway.

I went back and used my NX70 today because the battery on my TG was low. After it charged I thought, wow, this TG screen is bright--I better turn the backlight down. It was already on the lowest setting. The NX just seemed dingy at its lowest setting in comparison.

Heard that TT2 has a bright screen too, but wonder how's the color compair.
People complain of the uneven lighting of TG50, but I found no untoward effect while viewing pictures or movies.

I have both. The T/2 has a better screen, but the video and audio don't compare to the TG50.

Wat about the reported 'wavy lines' at the bottom of the screen? Does that bother any of you? I'm asking because i have the intention of switching to a TG50 from the Tungsten T (which has a fabulously 'clean' screen).

After awhile, you won't even notice the wavy lines.

Wavy lines are really only apparent and bothersome in some applications. Go to a store and check it out for yourself. Don't let it dissuade you from getting the best PDA out there.

Much better than my Vx or my dad's m505.

I am using the backlight at 60% & the screen brightness is just nice for me. The wavy lines are easily ignored once you got used to it.
nismo: I have the 60% as a profile in energy dimmer :-)
using from time to time .. but usually I use the 1% profile which conserves battery

I have been the long suffering owner of both a Palm M505 and M105 and comparing the TG50 with either of these products is pointless. The Sony stomps on the necks of both the palms! I have had two M505s replaced due to battery and screen problems. Now the third one has died of battery failure and Palm want me to cough up £110 GBP to either replace the battery or exchange the unit for someone elses patched up disaster zone. If you want to actually speak to someone, it will cost you £25 GBP a time and even then they don't care about helping you, they just want more money.
Sony on the other hand have been superb. IWhen my Vaio laptop sceen broke due to a careless individual crushing it, they offered to fix it at half the normal cost and would have it back to me within three working days. I spoke to the most mannerly and helpful service staff and can only say that Palm have lost a loyal, long standing customer to Sony.
Anyone thinking of buying a Palm built unit should read the forums and see that Palm hand helds have a disgraceful failure rate of around 40%. Only the excellent software and operating system keeps them afloat and of course the fact that Sony builds Clies that work.
Well done Sony. Keep up the good work.

Those "wavy lines" don't bother me at all, in fact, most of the time I don't even notice them anymore unless I actually make it a point to look for them.
