View Full Version : Reasons why I should get an NX80V

Finally, after some thoughts about it, I came out with a few reasons to justify myself why I should upgrade my Sony Clie T665C to a NX80V instead.

1) In-built camera

It is totally awesome. It is able 1.3 megapixels photos. This works out fine when I am contented to print out 4R size photos. However, this cannot replace a stand-alone camera. But it is cool for taking snapshots of friends sometimes when the occasion arises.

2) Voice recorder

The ability to record sounds is another considering factor. I know it might sound insane, but I think the idea of taping down a 2-hr lecture is way cool. I can revise my notes by listening to the recorded wave file. Ok, I might get sick of it maybe one day if I have to listen to a 2 hr lecture everyday. Haha! Not very feasible but the idea is there. :)

3) A 320 x 480 pixel screen with Virtual Graffiti

That is a 50% increase of screen size compared to my present one which has 320 x 320 pixel only. This is especially useful in programs like Wordsmith, Mobipocket etc. Ah... Not forgetting, my favourite game, Insaniquarium which boasts a landscape mode in its latest version 1.03

Having a Virtual Graffiti (VG) is cool, because I dont really like Graffiti. Not very nice to my eyes at least.

4) Longer battery life

I read comments about the battery life of the NX80. Typical battery life are from 8-10 hours. One of my friends, Ricleo, listens to his MP3s for 3 hours while playing his game and the outcome is just a 20% drop in battery usage. I can bet my life that if it were to be done on my T665C, I will have to install all my programs again. In short, the battery life span is about 50% more than my present one.

5) Better Processor - Faster loading and Movie watching

Who will complain of a better processor? I am contented with the Dragonball Processor, but an ARM processor is always nicer. Besides, I might turn to watching movies on NX80V if it turns out to be smooth compared to T665C which is jerky and slow.

6) In-built keyboard

The keyboard, IMO, is not very useful to me. But I guess it might be easier to type short notes than using Graffiti...

Well, I think this is about it....
Cheers! =)

Comments please. :)

Updated software! I upgraded from an NX70..and all the software is updated. Also, the whole Rico Suave move of opening the clamshell gets chicks (along with OOOOHS and AHHHHHS). It's a lift up-twist-lay down movement. Just don't get caught twisting the wrong way...

i would almost look at it another way. what are the features most important to me (including current and future availability e.g., ux, and price) - and which pda (ranked) fit that profile.

for example, instead of why i should get a nx - which is better for me, ux or nx? sure the nx has a better camera, but what are your priorities, and in what order?

you'd do the same thing when buying a car or house, and although a pda is cheaper, the buying principle is the same.
enjoy!

Go for it Dropzone! Just remember that you're going to be giving up a lot in form factor from the 665. But if you can deal with that and the features are more important to you, then come on over to the NX Club! You'll be glad you did. :)

The NX80 is definately the best Palm device I've ever used.

camera, memory, battery life. If you don't like the UX form factor, or the price, than this is your new clie. I like it even better than Cats!

I upgraded from an NR; and the NX80 has met most of my needs, except for integrated bluetooth and WiFi, and >64 MB RAM i'm wishing for. The processor is much better (from 66 MHz Dragonball to 200 MHz ARM processor); the useable memory is almost the same, however I am able to put more programs into memory stick than my previous NR). The camera is definitely better. Overall, I am very happy with my NX80. I wish it has more RAM, has a TV tuner, and integrated WiFi and bluetooth.

You have a wad of cash you don't know what else to do with.

"You have a wad of cash you don't know what else to do with."

Or you want a better form fitting device with some better features, better memory, better keyboard, better screen, better construction etc. I definitely don't feel like I threw a wad of cash away.

Hmmm....I  would wanna say get a Nx80 if you need one, but then again... no one really Needs a PDA, especially a multimedia powerhouse like the NX80... Basic PIM functions can be achieved using a normal organiser or even just simple pen and paper. So get one if you Want one. Kekeke...I got mine cuz I wanted it, not cuz I seriously needed it.

But if you carried every bit of information pertaining to your job -- papers, diagrams, photos, CDs, Webster's dictionary, around with you everywhere, it would get very heavy and bulky, and you probably wouldn't want to drag it with you to the movies, or the beach, or to your grandmother's house. But with a PDA, you can keep everything you'd ever need to know in a 2 7/8" x 5 1/4" x 7/8" package. And I didn't even mention having access to the internet and e-mail. Some people might prefer to wait until they get home or to the office to deal with whatever they need to do, but I like never having to say "I'm at my grandmother's house now, I'll call you tomorrow with that information." Between my phone and my Clie, I can give everyone I work with 24/7 access to every piece of information pertaining to my show, no matter where I am or what I'm doing. I have paper copies of most of that stuff too, but it's not something I would have on me unless I were at home or going to rehearsal.

PIM functions are part of the Clie's usefulness (and certainly when someone calls with a question it's usually Datebk5 or SuperNames that I have to pull up for the answer), but the ability to capture, display and edit high-quality photos, play MP3s, record video and audio, send e-mail, and open Word and Excel documents are stuff I use with the same seriousness as the PIM functions, not just cute "entertainment" extras.

Do I need a Clie? Well I guess I would survive without one, but it's sort of like saying, "do you need a computer -- can't you write that report by hand or on a typewriter, or go to the library and look that up instead of doing a Google search?" Sure you could, but there's not that many people who are willing to live with those methods anymore. I could survive without my Clie, but I'd probably hear myself saying, "Um... I don't have that with me" a whole lot, and that's the one phrase I try very hard not to say.

I suppose that is also why some people feel so stressed these days. We have lost the boundaries between work and leisure.

In the end, do we really accomplish all that much more nowadays with being constantly "connected" ?
