Sorry if somebody already posted on it... I'm thinking of getting it and I'm curious if anybody else has already.
Thanks,

Do a search for chargers in NZ section and you will find a lot of information. I bought this over ebay and works pretty good for me.

ok... did some cliesource searching and it looks like most folks are happy with the PEGA-BC10 unit. but I didn't see enough of an explanation on how the switch on it works. could somebody who has it breakdown the difference between "on" and "charge"?
thanks,
-chris
Just plug it into your nz and switch it on. The charger (with the 4AA batteries inside) will charge and power the nz at the same time....one way to confirm this simultaneous process is to look at the power light on your nz.....normally when the nz is charging on the cradle you'll see orange light while a green light is observed when the nz is in operation. However with the charger, you'll see both color lights (orange and green @ the same time!!!). You can also tap on the battery icon on your nz's screen to see what the process is when the charger is connected and turned on (the process switches between charge and discharge every couple of seconds when the nz is in operation).
Cheers

so what's the point of the "charge" switch then?

I believe that if you switch the battery extender to "Charge" that it stops charging the Clie once it has reached a full charge, so that you can pluch it in and leave it overnight, for example, and not worry about it over charging.
The "On" position simply supplies power to the Clie, so would be useful if you were just sitting and playing a game or reading, and did not want to waste the battery. ("On" may also charge the unit, but I am not positive on that.)
That is my understanding, anyway. Anyone else have that understanding?

yes, that's correct.

just pulled my bc10 out of the briefcase...
the off is no power comes out
on powers the clie, status is shown as "external power", system is not charging.
charge puts the unit in charge mode.
I like having the options, but cannot realy justify why I would ever use the ON instead of CHARGE, unless the ON mode does not waste any power if the clie is fully charged.
I'll watch, maybe there is some benefit.

this is the one i bought on ebay for 7.99+3.00 shipping, I have used this item lots of times, and if you ever want to take like 100 photos with the flash, hook this little sucker up to it, and i haven't seen a low battery indicator since.
I alwasy liked the idea of charging or replacing batteries ina palm device and this suites my purposes fine

I must have a different one. My unit doesn't have the option to charge or not. Just an on/off switch.
Works fine, though. When these first came out, there was a lot of discussion about that switch, but it came down to such a subtle difference that those that had the switch just left it in charge all the time.
You would use "on" when your Clie is already fully charged and you want to use it without draining the Clie battery. It must take slightly more power to charge and run the device, even when the battery is already charged up.

the one i described is the bc10 made by sony, the other ones are less expensive ones, which do pretty much the same thing... the sony is a bit smaller (i like), has a shorter cord (i don't like so much") and has the 2 options of charge or power..

I used my charger on a recent 2 week long trip where no power outlets were available. To my amazement the 4 AA batteries in the charger never ran out! -I was able to recharge my NZ90 about 6 times from near empty, the batteries in the charger are still working and I can probably get another charge or two from them? 2 thumbs up for the battery charger!

Are you using NiMH rechargeables? How many mA's? 2000?

I would like to revive this thread once again by asking the same as tonyreynolds. Does anybody out there own this charger (the one with simply an on-off switch) and use it with rechargable NiMH batteries? I did it once and I'm not sure about it, but I had the impression that there was no charging when I tried it a second time. Perhaps I did anything wrong, but it seemed to drain power from the unit???

Can't speak for Tony but I've used the charger with the NR70 for over a year using the NR as much as 12-15 hr a day an d use the nicad either 1850 or 2000ma batteries recharing them. I was down in bed due to surgery and would have been lost with out the charger and my NR.

I have one of these chargers. It works very well on my NZ. When the power switch is turned on the Chrg. indicator on the clie is active. I use it with 4 - 2000ma batteries. My charger also came with a usb charger which recharges the batteries when plugged into a usb port and a usb hotsync cable.

okay again:
I own the charger as listed on the link at the beginning of this thread and have used it quite a bit:
1) very easy to use
2) very resonably priced
3) very good quality
4) easy and secure hookup to my Clie NZ90
there is an on/off switch and a charge light.
turn the switch to the "on" position when you want to charge your clie or run your clie while it is plugged in to the battery charger. It takes about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to charge from 35%-50% to full charge.
I use 4 energizer AA batteries (not rechargables).
I've used the same batteries for over 7 charges now, all charges were done when my Clie was at about 35%-50% charge. The batteries are still working fine, and I assume i'll get a few more charges out of them.
my overall impression: for $15 it's been one of the best investments for my Clie!

Dorothee you might want to check the battery charger before and after with the batteries. It is always possible one battery may be bad and therfore not working. I try to unplug charger after charge just to make sure that there is no battery drain. This charger is not like the electral charger so it is possible if let on that it might drain down if let on several hours after the unit is charger. Electrical chargers have fail-safe built in the little battery charger does not

yes I agree w/ BluePrt,
The battery charger is not like an electrical charger, if the battery charger is left on over night or for hours and hours it will eventually drain the batteries in the charger.
How to use the charger:
Hook the charger up to your clie when the clie is low on power, then wait until your clie's orange charge light dims or goes off. Then unplug the charger and turn the charger to the "off" position. I also recommend taking the batteries out of the charger if your not going to use the charger for an extended period of time (this too can slowly drain the batteries in the charger).
This charger is really easy to use, there is an on/off switch ...that is it!! It's only $15 bucks, and it works great. There isn't much more to it than that. \

Thanks a lot, folks, I followed your good advice and, voila, it worked.
First, I tried it with four 2100 NiMH batteries, but after a short while the orange light began to flicker and I thought there seems to be something wrong! So I took my 1800 NiMH batteries and it worked like a charm!
Is it possible that 2100 NiMH are too strong if newly charged? It hardly can imagine that one of them should have been bad since it was a new pack and they worked in my digitalcamera

The higher amperage batteries may have been the problem.
I know that on my digicams, my Fuji 4700z came with 1600mA NiMH's. When I got my Minolta D7i, it came with 2000mA NiMH's. I thought the higher capacity AA's would be great for the 4700, since it's a real power-hog, but it wouldn't even power up...
I think that based on what others have said, the cheap ticket here would be to buy bricks of AA alkalines at Costco and use those, ESPECIALLY if I can get the equivilent of 6 or 7 charges. It's also nice to know that one could pick up extras wherever one happened to be.
