View Full Version : Polyphonic ring tones as alarm sounds on CLIE
BlueTooth

Just downloaded some free polyphonic ring tones from Sony Ericsson (http://www.sonyericsson.com/fun/ringtonesShowHTML.do) site. These make great alarm sounds on the CLIE.

They sound nice. Did you have to register an account to download? If not, how did you 'grab' them.

Just click on them and then look in your browser cache......they are all there!!!! ;-)
I downloaded the first tone (Autum Sky) and tried using the SJ33 Sound Converter utility to convert it into an alarm.
It failed to convert. Which Clie models, specifically, does this work for?
Edit: Ah, i guess the polyphonic ones don't work on the SJ33. :(
Oh well, Autumn Sky was rather nice...

yeah, although the SJ33 seems to be the same as the T665, it lacks the Yamaha FM chip that the T665 got, and possibly the JPEG DSP too.

Hi You can download the individual pdb files for the polyphonic midis here:
http://www.micromadhouse.com/musicstudio/alarms.html
Just download the free alarms at the bottom. Hope this helps all those who could not get it to work. Again your Clie must support polyphonic sounds and the alarms should get automatically installed into your alarm database.

The free midis file should contain all the songs from the sony ericcson site.

Well converted them so that they can easily be installed to the Clies that were having trouble earlier up in the thread. Should they be removed? Let me know.

Shares the T625C the same Yamaha FM chip as the T665?
If yes, then you can only use MIDI type 0 files, there exist three different MIDI format (types 0, 1 and 2). I use MIDI Converter (http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/progs/software.htm) in order to convert MIDI files from format 1 or 2 to format 0.

Hi Id be happy to make further collections for alarms, just need to be pointed in the right direction.
I was thinking of making a complete free alarm archive for all different Palm devices to download the ones suitable for their palm.

Wow, thanks for the line on the killer MIDIs!
They sound great on my SJ33!
(Now if I can just find "The Itchy and Scratchy Theme" in poly, I'd be all set!

Excellent! It worked! Now I have Autumn Sky as an alarm on my SJ33.
SJ33 SoundConverter only handles Format 0 MIDIs so you have to use the above MIDI utility to first convert the ringtone to a Format 0 MIDI then use SoundConverter to convert it to a Alarm and sync it.

Found more COOL polyphonic ringtones which could be used as alarms. This site actually has a huge collection. Hope micromadhouse will provide these as well for easy download.

Great find, BlueTooth!! I just had one question about the ringtones on this site... all of the previews are stored in MP3 format (had to fish thru the cache to find them). Does anyone know of a way to convert the MP3 file into MIDI format so that I can use "Sound Converter" to install them onto my Clie.

I too am finding trouble to get to the actual Midis, it sure is a huge selection.
As earlier, we will probably compile a very big free collection of alarms that every palm user can download for their palm that is compatible to the device.
Firstly working on two very big (and i hope stunning( games and a revamp of website, which will take priority. Then we will get going on some alarms for everybody.

After downloading the midi file into my computer, how can I convert it as alarm and put it in my nx73v/h?
Thanks.

Kick ***! These sounds files are great. Insanely lound in some cases, but nice all the same. No need for a seperate alarm clock any more!

Has anyone mentioned this before?
Mider for Hoho (freeware and available at http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&sid=0779B491-7E43-47FA-A275AE5A9C7D5E4E&prodID=40978) will extract midi files from .pdb.
You can then mix and match those you want to import into your Clie with Sound Convertor.

If you are looking for classical midis, I recommend The Classical Music Archives at http://www.classicalarchives.com/ (requires referrer).
A couple of my favorites are in the Bach section:
Toccata and Fugue in D-, BWV565
[MIDI] Toccata [9:15 · 31k]; Fugue [5:19]
Just two of 25,569 files by 1,640 composers.

Thanks for all the info on the ring tones...
I took my PS1 and plugged it into my computer line in jack for a lot of my alarm sounds. The free Sound Recorder in WinXP works great! The best sounds come from games with a test mode, like the NAMCO arcade series. I get weird looks every time my SJ33 says, "Alarm! Alarm!" just like Bosconian.
Too cool!

If you have Windows XP, you can lower the volume by using the Sound Recorder (in Accessories). Open the file you want, then select "Decrease Volume" from the Effects menu and resave it. Simple, yet effective. It's perfect for trimming dead space off of your sound files too.

For clarification, since it wasn't directly stated, what you are saying is wrong, cykalan ;)
Cool find on the ringtones!

*RRGG* Can anyone post the *.PRC files of Autumn Sky and EuroMan? Sound Convertor fails to see that I do, in fact, have Palm Desktop installed ...
