<P class=heading>Wireless

<P class=heading>The UX40 has Bluetooth, and the UX50 has both Bluetooth and WiFi. The Bluetooth configuration is similar to other Sonys. The WiFi configuration has been improved to support auto discovery and listing of available access points.

Yea, unfotunately its probably a hardware thing and we won't be able to get a software upgrade to get the same function on our older clies.

nice feature to auto search for access points, but wouldn't that be battery drainning?
Since I don't see a WiFi ON/OFF switch on the Clie. :D

Just like the Bluetooth in the NZ and the TG, it can be turned on and off under Prefs.

Yea, I posted about it in some other thread, but i'm sure it got lost in the noise. I've noticed a couple other people discover it to.

VERY exciting in my opinion. Something we have all wanted with our WL100/110 cards right?

The UX lists all access points it finds, so you can first choose one, then hit connect. To use it and turn on the radio, you'll still first go to Prefs, then Network, just as with NX and NZs. Or you could use the connect now function in Netfront. It doesn't require more power than non-site surveying, since it only looks when you tell it to.

It's like using "Any" as the SSID on an NX or NZ, only it returns a list of access points instead of just trying to connect to the first access point it finds.

This is a software feature, not hardware. Having tried different drivers on the same WiFi card on Pocket PCs, I've seen quite a range of features between drivers-- including site survey with some, nada with others.

The indicator lights aren't buttons :) Just LEDs.

Sorry Ocell, I must have missed it. So many are trying to put it down, without exploring all the features first. When it comes right down to it,&nbsp;one can find&nbsp;things wrong with just about anything ;)

It does seem to show the signal strength. See this slide from mobilenews.ne.jp:
