When you are in Sony web site, check CLIE extended battery PEGA-EB40, you would see one of the features is that it is compatiable with PEG-UX50 and PEG-UX40.

I think they should have had the UX40 with no digital camera, but built-in Wi-Fi and BT. That would seem to make more sense to me, similar to the other CLIE's.
