For some reason my MS drive doesn't show up on my computer. When I try to drop MP3s on my 760, the Microsoft device wizard pops up looking for new hardware. Is there something I need to reinstall from my installation disk?
Hmmm, did you install MSExport to PC? If yes, did you stick the Clie on the cradle and launch MSImport? Once you did these, you should be able to see your MS as "Removable Drive" in Windows Explorer (or My Computer). Mine is drive E:\.

I went back and re-installed MS Export on my PC. When I put my sony in the cradle and start MS Import, the PC pops up with a 'found new hardware: sony peg mass storage' window. It cannot find a driver to recognize it. What do I do now?
Wierd! I assume your HotSync is no problem, so it may be the MS driver is corrupted. Sony has software updates for Clie. You may try finding the update for the MS driver there. Click this (http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/n760c/softupdates/) to get to their site. Good luck.

I assume that you uninstalled MS Export from the PC and the Clie SCSI drivers (or whatever it is called) in Add/Remove Software first. Then did a reinstall of MS Import and MS Export from your Clie CD? And you checked the Sony website for any software updates for your model related to MSImport?
If this all does not work, check your Device Manager for the PEG Mass Storage. Is it there? If so, and it has a red alert mark in front of it, try deleting it, rebooting and trying again. This scenario is again forcing your PC to recognize and load the drivers.

Are you talking about removing the 'clie memory stick driver'? I haven't done this yet. When I go to device manager, it's not showing the PEG mass storage at all.
FYI, me too. I could not finding the PEG mass storage at the device manager.
I went to Add/Remove Programs and here are the list of programs that are related to CLIE, MS, MP3:
1. CLIE memory stick driver
2. Memory Stick Formatter
3. MS Export
4. OpenMG Additional Module
5. OpenMG Secure Module
6. Palm Desktop
7. PictureGear 4.4Lite
8. RealJukebox
You may try uninstall all of them, restart your PC, and reinstall them from Installation CD-ROM.
Let us know how you do. I would like to know how you solve this problem. You just never know someday I may have the same problem (knock on wood).

I think my post was a bit unclear. If you have successfully connected to your PC with MS Import, you should see (in Device Manager) under Universal Serial Bus Controllers - Sony PEG Mass Storage. Under Disk Drives, you will see Sony CLIE MS.
In the past I have seen these in Device Manager when not connected with MS Import with the warning icon preceeding the above mentioned entries. This indicated to me a driver problem. I deleted these entries in Device Manager as a precaution, continued with the complete removal of MS Export and MS Import followed by the reinstallation of both of these programs from the Sony CD.
I recently developed a problem connecting with MS Import if I was overclocking my CLIE.

Ahh. I see them now after I put the CLIE on the cradle and launch MSImport. If I just look at the Device manager without launching MSImport, both PEG Mass Storage and Sony CLIE MS (mine is "Sony CLIE 700C") are not there. So if you can't get the MSImport to work to begin with, how would you place the two files there in the first place?

When I put my 760 in the cradle and start MS Import, here's what happens in device manager: under 'other devices' it says Sony PEG mass storage. It has a question mark beside it with a smaller exclamation point below it. Then the new hardware wizard pops up. What should I do?
Someone earlier mentioned deleting everything clie related from the PC, then reinstalling. Do I need to do that?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled those programs several times when I first learnt how to use Clie,. Most of the time it's due to my own stupidity of deleting wrong files or pressing wrong buttons. So far, knock on wood, that trick have saved me from many long hours of frustrations and I haven't seen any harm done, but I may be a very lucky man to get this far with everything seems to hum nicely and without loosing any database. One thing for sure before you do this, you may want to backup your Clie RAM to MS.

Back to the original question...MS doe not show up on your computer.
Uninstall MS Import and MS Export from the PC through Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall MS Import from the CLIE. Re-run the MS Import/Export software from your CD. Follow all the directions. Check the Sony website for any updated MS Import drivers (there are two for my N610). Install any updates per the instructions. That is all there is to reinstalling. Since everything else works fine (all hotsynch conduits) don't uninstall anything else.
Larry
I don't think you want to uninstall MSImport from CLIE since it is part of the original ROM apps that comes with the CLIE. You can delete it with JackSprat or FileZ, but I haven't heard people have problem with MSImport. Most problems are with the MS driver or MSExport compatibility with the Windows system. I won't be messing around with ROM apps if I were you, unless you are absolutely sure that you don't need them. Even then you want to back it up somewhere since they are the only copy you have. The Installation CD-ROM does not have backup copy of MSImport. HotSync and MSBackup only back up the RAM apps. Uninstalling those 8 programs in PC that I mentioned in the previous post won't be a problem because you have a copy of each of them in the installation CD-ROM.

DanT,
FYI. MS Import is not a ROM resident app in the CLIE.
Larry
It is in my N760C. According to Chapter 5 of Add-on Application Guide (p.104), the MS Import is already installed on N760C and we just need to install MS Export to PC. I checked it with JackSprat and FileZ. Both apps show MS Import is in ROM. See also Tanker Bob's Primer on JackSprat/JackFlash (http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/). This app is one of the three ROM apps that he warns us not to remove it out of the ROM. He has T665. What Clie do you have? If yours is an upgrade, that may explain why MSImport is in RAM.

You hit the nail on the head :D.
I wanted to transfer files from MS to another PC with Win98SE using my Clie as the card reader, so I installed MSExport to the PC. When I stick the Clie to the PC via USB port and launch MSImport, the PC wouldn't display the Removable Disk. Then I went to the Device Manager and saw the alert sign on the "Sony PEG Mass Storage", so I just double click on it, which automatically search for the Sony device driver, load the Installation CD ROM and follow the instruction, shutdown and restart the PC, and voila, the "Removable Disk" now apprears on the Windows Explorer. That's a cool trick to know. Thanks Larry.

I have the same problem.
kjatkins - did any of the suggestions in this thread resolve your problem?
Thanks

If you guys go through the menus on the Installation CD you will find there is an option to install 'MS SCSI Driver' and if memory serves it's right next to MS Export. Of course the method quoted by breakfastchef works nicely too if you prefer it.
This is the key file you need when you want to use MS Import on your palm to connect to your computer. It's also worth making a copy of and saving somewhere, it's only a couple of MB...
