Based on what we know so far, does this new unit have enough to make you want to upgrade?

nah! looks like it's about 20% bigger in size than the NR, plus it's not OS 6.

Actually, I think it's smaller

I might. However, there are a few issues that concern. For won it appears it only works in landscape mode. Now, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of having a landscape orientation and in many situations, I prefer it, like ebook reading for instance. However, there are a lot of situations where portrait mode would be preferable and not having that option does seem all that good. Plus, I don't really have a current need for wifi or bluetooth. The only wifi connection I deal with is at work and there are PLENTY of computers for me to use if I want to surf the net (and post here like I am right now) or access our network in order to do what I am paid to do :) And I have no Bluetooth devices nor do I encounter them on a daily basis. So, if my financial situation works out like I plan, by the end of next month I should have the funds to upgrade. And it is either this or the NX80 so I have another month to think about it. But I am leaning toward this because of the amount of memory built-in.

I really like the idea of having built-in WiFi. Bluetooth doesn't appeal to me right now, as I have no bluetooth devices. I'm not happy with just 16 meg of memory in this unit and I was hoping for a faster processor. In other words, I was hoping for a Sony with VG but T|C specs. My initial response to this unit was a definite "yes" but now I think I'll have to wait and see just how small the screen really is and how this unit feels in my hands.

yes and no...
i'd love to upgrade cause of the WiFi and BT and all that other great stuff, but then there are the downsides...
such as no CF slot, next to impossible to play games and that the screen is smaller.
i think i'd wait till they'd come out with a second gen UX50 or better yet third gen UX50 and all the problems are fixed.
until then i think i'll juss watch and see wat happens... =D
BTW isnt Palm OS 6.o commin out soon like in Nov. or sumtin like that???
juss my two cents =)

I MIGHT upgrade but by keeping in mind that OS6 is going to be revealed late in the year, and having NO MONEY, I think I'll stick with my NR :)
However, if the handheld engine performance (video-wise) is better than the current CLIES, I'll sell my NR.

Ditto. Same reasons here. I patronized Sony too early and got stuck (not that the NR is rendered useless by the fact) with an older model. I'll wait this time.

I'm not sure....
Originally I might have waited, as I was happy with my NR and surfing with my BTMS when needed...was tempted by the NX..
but my NR lost total usage of it's MS slot Wed, so I will have the opportunity 2 upgrade by the beginning of Aug.
I want built in connectivity, both bt and wi-fi. I am disappointed by the UX screen size and what seems like a lack of ability to use the device in portrait mode.
yet I'm still intrigued. If I can be without a PDA and wait until Mid-September (that's asking alot) - assuming that's when the UX i available in Circuit City - I might upgrade.

no i won't upgrade just yet, my nr is still enough for what i need, even though i'm temped by wifi and bluetooth. I like the form factor and don't think it's to big. Love more mem etc etc. Also no money yet, spend it all on my bike....:D

I love the UX-50, the wifi bluetooth and camera. The camera is ok... wish it was atleast 1 megapix, but what the hell, it's all good. They keyboard looks nice and comfy, and i love the laptopish style and the landscape screen. BUT, i don't like the fact that the screen is smaller than my NR70V, and location of the jogdial and app buttons! AND how do i play games with the horrible app buttons! That sucks like poo on a log.

Oh one more thing for NOT upgrading to the UX:
No hacks!!!

I will run my NR 70V until it quits. I'd probably replace it with a J33 type unit to keep running Datebk5 etc. I think big bucks should be saved for whatever comes to pass in the Tablet area. I'm not spending now, but Tablets will probably be correctly designed and priced in the not-too-distant future.

Nope. With rumors of a T|T3 with VG, I think I'll wait...

Just upgraded to a NZ90. I waited to see some of the new stuff released by sony but still nothing fits my needs better than the NZ.
