Is is a minature laptop computer, is it a handheld computer, is it a pda? What really is it? Are PDA's evolving, or are laptops getting smaller? Who is the say the the (eventually) world's smallest laptop is not a PDA (and to be sold in the PDA section of a store, not along with the laptops?)

Err... Why would we want a half size mem stick? so that it fits in the unit? will our normal sticks still work?

to save space in small devices like the ux-50. and no, I do not believe that a normal size memory stick will work in a duo slot. the duo will however work in a normal slot with it's supplied adapter.

To get back OT, I think it may turn out to be a viable laptop alternative for certain users (ie enterprise markets). Think about it; why carry a laptop and a pda for doing common tasks such as email (corporate & remote) word processing (viewing, editing, creating Office docs) filling out forms/surveys, etc?
For most of these tasks, a full-blown laptop running 2k or XP is overkill and has only a few hours of battery life. A device such as the UX-50 could easily handle these tasks in a form factor that is pocketable and weights around a pound compared to 4lbs or more for a laptop, and battery life of the UX-50 would appear to be double or triple.
Pair it with a 2G or 3G BT phone and/or a wifi hotspot (becoming more and more commonplace in airports, hotels, conference centers, cafes, McDs) and you have remote access to the web, email, and corporate LANs; perfect for workers on the road.
