Hi,
I even installed the patch from Sony, and Palm Desktop is still so slow in coming up and in overall operation. HELP! How do I the zip-zap back into this application?

Slow? Not a problem here at all, even on 4 XP machines. Sounds like you have a system problem!
Hit all three keys at once: CNTRL, ALT, DEL to bring up the Windows Task Manager.
Look at the processes tab and look at the status bar at the bottom to see if your CPU is running at 100%. Then look in the processes list to see which one is the offending application. Do NOT kill the process, find the app and then close it.
