My wife's T615 is DEAD ! (or at least appears to be). She has tried charging it overnight. I even brought it to work to try it on my cradle here. NOTHING ! The charging light does not even come on when it is in the cradle. Tried soft reset. Tried cleaning the contacts to see if it was not making contact with the cradle. Nothing seems to work. Does she need a new internal battery? And if so, is that a repair that I can do myself?
HELP !

Does it hotsync on the cradle?
Unfortunately, my T615 is going through a similar bout. It will not charge nor will it hotsync. I may have to have it replaced.

Do you have a voltmeter? What about a power supply? Also, when was the last time you charged or hotsync'd it?
One problem with Lithium-ion ( or lithium polymer ) batteries is that there is some danger of swelling or bursting when the voltage of the battery drops down around 2.0V ( if left off dock for extended periods )
So this may be why you see a "dead" Clie' that won't charge or respond to charging. ( i.e. the companies don't like to have their product explode on people... hmmm... )
Some high-end devices detect this and trickle charge the battery over 2.0V and then apply the regular charging current. Which most of the time is around 20% - 70% of the rated capacity.
The battery charging circuit may not have this trickle charge mode ( shame on Sony! ), so even if you put a low voltage on the right pins on your hotsync connector, it won't let the battery charge.
Then you'd be forced to open the Clie' and apply the trickle charge manually. Hence, the need for a multimeter ( voltmeter ) to check battery voltage.
Open the Clie and take a reading off the battery directly.
If you confirmed the battery voltage was low, you'd need to apply around 80mA @ 5.2V ( assumes the battery is 800mAh 5.2V - check it! The details are on the back of the Clie' ) until battery voltage was over 2.0V. Then put it on the hotsync cradle and see if it'd charge.
One last thing - if the Clie' was left in the sun and got too hot or experienced a short somewhere, the fuse might have blown. And I would almost guarantee the fuse is not resetable - this is more of an issue.
Sounds pretty techie, but it's not too bad - the issue is more of using a multimeter and power supply. E-mail offline for more details if you want.
Hope it helps,
