SO, my question is, is there a way to encode my MP3 files to ATRAC3 format to put on my clie? also, how much of a difference is there between mp3 and atrac? size wise, space wise? can my files still be shared?
on an off note, what is my PM quota? its says I have 33% of it used up, but what is it? thanks all
Andreas:)

If you use Sonic Stage that came with our Clie, then you can import your MP3 files into it. Then you can "check out" the songs into your Clie or other Atrac3 compatible player.
Why use Atrac3? The size is the same. Sony wants you to use it to prevent you from giving music to everyone. You can check out a song 3 times. If you don't check it back in, you can't check it out anymore.

Right! Why complicate your life by using Sony's proprietary ATRAC3 format? You also would have to buy the more $expensive$ white Magic Gate sticks. Makes absolutely no sense. Just get the purple sticks and a good MP3 app!

Larry is absolutely right! Stay clear of Sonic Stage and MG sticks. Get a free download of MusicMatch, buy some purple MS, and never be bothered by Sony's copyright restrictions again!

If you already have the sticks and the only device you use for music is your Clie, then it doesn't really matter. But, if I was starting all over again, I'd do it differently.
I started with a NR710. MP3s were supposed to work, but didn't.

The NR70V was the first Clie I owned that played MP3s and I never had a problem with them. My friend and I had one of Sony's Network Walkmans and we had gotten MPEG-4 music to work on it, using the purple sticks. I haven't had the chance to try this with the NX (just got it!) but there IS a way to avoid those weird magicgate sticks...

MP3's worked good on the N760C that I had. The NR70 was no problem, but the NX does not like anything fancy like VBR or MP3-Pro.
