The SJ22 is currently US $200. My friend wants to sell his m515 for $200...

So basically, my predicament is this: What should I get, a Sony Clie SJ22 or a Palm m515?

The SJ22 clearly has a better screen....it's transflective and high resolution. With m515, you're stuck with a reflective 160x160 display....but it has a really small form factor, which is small like an old Palm V.

What would you guys choose if you had to pick between these two PDA's? Thanks for your advice.

I would definitely go with the SJ22, for the screen difference alone if nothing else. The screen is MUCH better and it allows you to take advantage of the hi-res software. And my big clincher is the JOG Dial which is great for scrolling through ebooks. No comparison between the two models IMHO.

Plus, the m515 cannot mount its SD card on your desktop like MSImport will do with the MemoryStick, it still astounds me that Palm has not developed this capability.

Plus with the SJ-22 you get a full 15Mb of usable RAM plus the ability to run easily of the MS with a thrid party program.

The only, and I mean ONLY, downfall of the SJ22 is the absence of Intellisync or Pocketmirror, as well as Docs to Go.

I own an SJ30. :D

And by the way, did you know there *is* a difference in hardware between the SJ22 and SJ30? I noticed it a few weeks ago in the store. As all SJ30 owners know, the up/down rocker is quite troublesome, as down is far easier to press than up. The button is not placed symmetrically, the up site is far more recessed than the down site, making it harder to press.

On the SJ22, the up/down rocker is symmetrical. Glad they repaired it. :)

I didn't know the rocker was improved in SJ22.....

From what I've heard, SJ22's backlight is *slightly* brighter than SJ30's. This is both a good thing and bad thing.......the good is obvious, but the bad is that it'll just drain more battery power in exchange for better brightness.

And, supposedly SJ22 has less of a blue-ish tint screen than SJ30's screen, but this is just a rumor.....I haven't really notice this myself...

Yes, I've heard this as well, but my SJ30's screen can really be cranked up bright. I can't imagine needing anymore, even in the brightest sunlight. As is, inside and outside, I get by with the brightness set at about 25%

I traded up to an SJ22 from a Palm IIIxe and found no downsides at all! :) But then I don't have a need for Intellisync or Pcoketmirror.....and I believe Pocketmirror is available on my wife's m125 CD. I know Docs to Go is there as I tried it out. It just seemed to be more than I really needed. I've been a registered Wordsmith user for quite some time and I find that to be an excellent application for Word documents. So far, I've not had any need to sync Excel docs onto my SJ22 but it is nice to know I have DTG available if I need it.

Granted though, the bundled software with the SJ22 does leave a bit to be desired but outside that, it is probably the best buy in a PDa right now, especially if all you want are basic organizer functions. My needs are pretty straightforward, I want a datebook/contact manager, the ability to read ebooks, browse webclips (ie. Avantgo/Handstory), edit Word documents plus store a few images on my handheld. For these tasks, the SJ22 absolutely shines. Add a 128Mb MS and a Sena case, what more do you need?? LOL

Actually the orignial post was to compare the SJ22 against the m515. The Zire is a nice PDA but why pay for features you don't need. My Rio with Sennheiser 'phones handles all my MP3 needs and my SLRs and my Fuji handle my photographic needs. The orignial poster may need those, but for my use, I'd choose the SJ22 over the m515 any day.

Definitely, I go for Sony SJ-22.
Not to mention I have just bought mine 2 weeks ago from Compusa. The screen is superb...amazingly crisp. You can transfer your jpeg images to Sony. It comes with 16 Mb internal memory. Software which comes with it is really awesome.
I am really happy to use Palm OS, and Sony.

Just go to a computer store, Best Buy, Compusa...etc.
and play with it....see for yourself.

Good luck,

-Selim.

My previous Clie was a T665, and I really didn't run into low battery problems the way I used it. (Though I do notice that my SJ33 stays at 100% longer than the T665 did). If you're near electricity (home/office) it shouldn't be much of an issue, if on the other hand you're going camping for the weekend or something similar, then you might run low.
