This may thread may have gone unread as it was in the off-topic forum, hopefully it'll get some more response and maybe we'll even see some of the ideas put in to place.

I love ClieSource, it is the best place for Clie news and it has the most active forum. However I am really annoyed by the messy homepage. It is really necessary to put so much information on the same page? It is difficult to navigate and worst of all it is very slow to load. The HTML file itself is 130 KiloByte! Along with graphics and scripts it is a heavy 489KB. If the webmaster or editors of CS are reading this, here are my suggestions:
- Use more CSS for layout and formatting instead of tables and font tags.
- Eliminate duplicate navigation (e.g. the forum index)
- Remove all the links on the right column, put them onto another page.
- Remove "who's online", no one really needs to know that.
- Remove "Past News" on the left column, put them onto another page.
- Remvoe "current clie models" at the bottom
- Show only active forum titles
Trimming the frontpage can save bandwidth and reduce server load. I believe all readers will be happier with a faster and simple page too.
Hmmm, I do find myself agreeing with some of that Cloudless said if only to aid in bandwidth use. I think I'd keep the forums index at the left, but remove the pictures from the top of the screen. I've never clicked on the pictures and they do take up more bandwidth than the text at the left. A seperate links page would be nice. While not a tremendous savings in bandwidth as it's mostly text, every little bit helps. Would also move the advertisement up to a better level and make the page look less crowded. Agree with removing the past news from the left column, and perhaps condensing the navbar a little bit. Instead of listing the two galleries, just keep gallery there, etc. Agree with removing the Current Clie models at the bottom, throw them on another page with a link in the nav bar. Also remove classifieds, active topics, and newest files. If this isn't favored, at least remove current clie models and active topics. I believe most people have a set series of forums they look at when they come here and pay little attention to active topics. remove the calendar...I own a Clie, I know what date it is ;-)
