When you go to the kinoma website their banner shows that you can watch movies in widescreen landscape mode - Can you really do this??

Yes, definitely! I have the Spiderman trailer on my NR70V and it is in landscape.

With the NR/NX/NZ you can see modes like wide screen CW and CCW.

The video has to be created in landscape mode - you cannot change it to landscape mode within the Kinoma player. You establish the landscape settings when you create the content using Kinoma Producer.
