Go figure.... Larry was first to point out a new (updated) browser...LOL

It's nice to see another HR+ browser (with 1/5 the footprint of NF). I'll give it a try. Too bad it doesn't have a Zoom Out feature..

Cheers, Rich

n2ifp,

did you also install the NX patch? I found that the new plink still crash until i install the system patch, which provide a better network detection.

(i have the modem stuff installed also, (but the network card was in the cf slot) maybe there is a problem there?)

i tried it and it works fine on my NX. It's just kinda like webProV but in full 320x480. The only problem is that it freezes if the site you wanna go doesn't exist/connection problem.

Yes, I installed the patch, previous versions of PocketLink would crash on me. It now seems to be very stable. My brother hasn't tried the new version yet.

No, not that I know of, although I didn't look for that. I still believe PLink is a work in progress yet, but it's getting better and it looks nice. What I am trying to say that there is a glimmer of hope, that one day, hopefully soon, us Clie owners will have a sweet working browser.

I so want a browser on my clie, i nothing else but to shut up my boss who uses his Pocket IE all the time.

PLink failed for me too and infact caused my clie to reset....Very embarasing when boss was looking over shoulder.

I am sure there was a hack that allowed the screen on the NR to be spun 90 degrees. Does anybody have any ideas as to the name of it? It can be done as I often use Mobipocket landscaped.....

Did you try the latest version, I believe it was released on January 13th. I don't know of any hacks that rotated the screen on Clies, only certain apps did.

I tried it last week and found it still crashes on me occasionally. It also is slower than the Palm browser for me. I do like that it doesn't use a proxy server which allows me to connect to some secure sites which require my connection to come from specific IPs. Proxy webserver IPs need not apply.

Crash, crash, crash..... and slower...

Man, I was in hopes that it would work better, It took forever then my screen light went out, I could still see it in bright light, then it just stoped, had to reset to fix it. Hopefully they get a bug fix out, I'd like to try it again, will NetFront ever come out with an update?

Hmm. previous versions didn't work for me, but now it does, why? I have no clue, but it does. On my NR, I could never run Acid Solitaire now matter how hard I tried, even without anything else installed. Never bothered to install it on my NX.

Everyone who has a problem, should send PocketLink and email. That way maybe they'll improve it. The impression I get is that it's still a beta.

Wow. $20 or a Beta? Who do they think they are, Iambic?

Thanks for link. I downloaded and installed but upon launch am told it has expired. Probably because it knows I tried the previous demo version a while back. Anyone know how to get it to install?

Uh, don't know how it did this, but the install changed my date setting. I reset the date and reinstalled the prog, only to get Fatal Resets, one after the other. Yikes. No PocketLink for me, I guess. Well since, no one has said it yet in this thread(out of genuine respect for Larry). It's Netfront for me, baby!

All I get is Fatal Alerts and resets with Pocket Link. I had to perform a hard reset to get rid of it. I was hopeful for another HiRes+ browser, but it looks like its PowerRun and NetFront for me. I don't get many errors using NetFront because I use the Mazingo Mobile portal and evMo portal that have links to PDA formatted websites. I tried WebPro, but I just can't do the small screen thing. Why use this when you can get true full screen browsing (yes it is large and error prone)?

Has anyone besides Larry gotten PocketLink to work successfully?

Can anyone advise me how to get access to WebProV ? I can't see it listed on handango or palmgear.

To be honest, I believe the best implementation of a browser on say the NX70 is for native armlets to be used. AcidImage and SplashPhoto have shown what excellent implementations can be had if you take advantage of what the hardware is available. It lends itself to a much faster product, a stable product and more importantly, a smaller footprint. I don;t have a wifi card yet, so I'm having to leave my browser in RAM so I can use my bluetooth memory stick ...

Hoping someone out there will develop am armlet-based browser.

It's a shame this PocketLink cannot be run from the MS.  After I installed it worked fine, but after I tried to run it from the MS it gave me fatal errors and now it doesn't want to recover from that.  Also, it doesn't load pages as nice as NetFront.  It need a lot of work.

Works very nicely for my brother and I from the Memory Stick on two NX70 Clies. Earlier, I registered PLink through Handango. It loads fine through ZLauncher. There is some changes I'd like to see, one is a clear cache on exit option.

Neither my brother or I had any luck with NetFront at all. It didn't crash, it just plain stunk with errors and other sordid issues:)!

You don't seem to have much luck lately with trying to access the internet. I hope it changes soon for the better:).

I use it with PowerRun and don't have any problem running it from the MS.  This has the added benefit of keeping all or PocketLink's files on the MS and not in RAM.  I do wish it was a little more like WebPro.

Jay,

I am sure PLink it will get better with time but, it's still a work in progress from what I can tell.

That was the first thing I tried and it didn't work.  I got a Fatal Exception everytime I run it.  How did you setup PocketLink to work with PowerRun?

I'm glad I'm not alone on this PocketLink bug. NetFront seems to be nice, but is not completely functional. There are times that I get very much frustrated by its funcionality. Did anybody contacted the PocketLink developers? This bug is common among many people and I don't think it is a device software problem. This got a be a real software bug.

When using bad software, some people might be lucky, others will have to suffer. A good software shouldn't crash in more than 50% of the devices tested. I like PocketLink, but I cannot accept their sloppyness.

What happened to Xiino browser? I used to like it and I was able to make it display HR+ on my NR, but now on my NX my old HRfontmapper hack doesn't work.

I guess it is time to e-mail the Xiino developers.

By the way is there anything like HRfontmapper for the NX? So I can make some applications HR+? I was able to do it on my NR.

This morning I downloaded version 2.54 of PocketLink from Handango, and have been using it extensively on my NX. It's very fast, and I've not had even one fatal error or lockup. The Readme included in the Zip file indicates that the bug that appeared in earlier versions that caused NX-series Clie's to lockup or produce fatal errors has supposedly been fixed!

Of course, I haven't tried to download any graphics-intensive pages like msn.com or similar. But is it even reasonable to expect a little pda browser to be able to handle such things? I think not.

Anyway, I urge everyone to try the 2.54 build of PocketLink.

Thanks,

=Dan

10-4 on that...
I just went WiFi the other day. So, I've been trying out everything I can get my hands on and I had Netfront crash almost ever time I signed on. Once I was on, I was relatively happy with the connection speed to mobile sites and the feature set in general.
But that gets blown away by this build of PocketLink.
NO crashing out, good speed, easy bookmarking.
I don't think we can ask too much outta a browser that has to fit in a Clie/ on a Clie screen. This seems to offer more that the others for me .

I have found with v2.54, as long as I connect first, I am okay. If I start PLink first, I get a Fatal Exception Error. I have emailed the developer on this, so far no reply.

When it's working, it works good.
