are you implying that you have a working clie, but will say it doesn't work to exchange it and take advantage of the warranty? otherwise, what would be the big deal if they are a little late? were they not early to receive the model you currently have??

Like I said in another thread, by the way the service guy said it to me, it seems like they do have them but won't sell them until their inventory of 60s and 70s are gone; or at least become smaller.

That makes a lot of sense. Wait for the NX 60 and 70 units they are selling at just about cost to sell out, as competitors sell theirs at full retail at nice profits while the product is fresh, hot, and new. Cmonnnnnnnn

Sony does not allow much profit on their new stuff. I believe the COST for retailers on the NX80 is $519.

New York over here...it is so unusual at how CompUSA is handling this situation...

My friend works at compusa. I have looked at the inventory screen that says they are IO1. This means that the product has not been released, but it will be very shortly. CompUSA is not sitting on their NX-80s because stock was listed as zero. If tehy did have them they would have shown up in inventory. BTW at cost price will be 480 dollars. I'm going to crack the screen on my sj33, and only end up paying 250 dollars for an NX-80 with a service plan. :)

Yes, we know its wrong to intentionally break hardware in order to get good on the service plan, but its not like you can call the police on this issue. So I say, sit down, have a nice beverage, and relax before you bust an capillary.

just remember that the compusa plan is the most flexible, so count your lucky stars that you can upgrade in the first place.

Its not the most flexible in Jersey, They gice you a hard time returning or exchanging within your 14 day window....and thats WITH the 15% restocking fee, I don't know, they have been creating some very unsatisfied customers lately. Understaffed, bad customer service, sales people that know nothing about products, and management that won't honor their policies. I don't shop there anymore.

I won't even get into the moral implications. . .

Just depends on the store and who you get......I have had an incident where the screen cracked on my Nokia cell phone. Fluid leaked out of the LCD. I took it to the retailer where I bought it and they said sorry, not covered.

I called Nokia directly and explained the situation to them, sure just send it to us and we will fix it for you. I really did nothing intentionally. I left it out in the car overnight, it got cold - it cracked. I had never done that before and (I know) it shouldnt have matterd, Ive never seen an LCD crack because of cold weather so it must have had some sort of defect.

If you read these warranties, they could turn you down for service for any reason. Look at what they say they cover and don't cover in the book you receive. 99% of the time it is at the discretion of the management. In this case, my local Best Buy happens to be really good RIGHT NOW because they happen to have good sales people that know the benefit of customer service, referrals, repeat business, and they want you to upgrade to the next unit so you will get that plan again and earn them a spiff on it. This may not be the case all over. My local CompUSA has you standing in whatever section you are in for long periods of time with sales people talking to each other at the ends of the aisles. You walk up to them feeling like you are inconveniencing them by even being there even though you are spending your good hard earned money on the expensive equipment they are selling. In my case I was returning a defective NX70 (Regular lockups and screen freezing up on me) 2 days after purchase, they tried to tell me to send it to Sony like the sticker says on the box. I told them their return policy dosen't state exceptions, and they gave me a hard time stating that Sony gives them a hard time on returned items. I told them that it wasn't my problem that Sony gives THEM a hard time about their return policy and it turned into a ridiculous debate that never should had been addressed. It was uncomfortable, I felt like I was doing something wrong(which I wasn't) and due to this I asked for my money back instead of credit or an exchange, and I will not shop there for a long long time. This entire situation could become completely different at this store 1 year from now with employee turnover.

Same scenario 1 week later, I purchase another defective NX70 from Best Buy (Dead Pixels and crooked camera) They didn't have anymore in stock, but gave me the option of seeing if they were in stock at other locations in the area, or a full refund. I ended up upgrading to NX80 no questions asked, AND they honored a $30 off $150 coupon no problems no questions asked. Again that could change a year from now with bad hirings or bad managers. I just know that most of the time at that local store, they are knowledgable, friendly, helpful, and provide a comfortable environment for a high ticket purchase. Just my experience and opinion.

CompUSA covers even "accidental" damage. If you are morally torn, just have your friend randomly trip you when you are carrying your Clie.

You are correct, the cold shouldn't have cracked it. Nokia probably knew that too, but may never admit it. They throw a little bone your way, make you a happy camper, which will pay dividends in the long run. A technicain can also easily tell if something is abused or not.

I'm reminded of a time when I bought a game cartrige (gameboy) that turned out to be very dissapointing. I couldn't get my money back on an open box, so I "accidentally" left it in the microwave for only a few seconds. It misteriously didn't work after that, so I returned it as defective. It also smelled funny.

I don't know what a microwave will do to a clie. Does it say anywhere NOT to store it in there?

Perhaps you shouldn't risk frying the inside of your own microwave to do this. Better to purchase a microwave from Best Buy then use it to fry your PDA and then return the microwave for a refund because you don't like it. If you're going to be a crook, why don't you be a BIG crook.

Now I know why PDA's cost so much. Not only am I paying for mine, I'm paying for part of yours, too.

compusa (extended warranty, not normal 14 day return) is the best simply because they cover accidental (read screen damage). no one else covers that, period.

so you should count your lucky stars to even have this package.

this reminds of half the people saying they can't wait for a new clie, and half saying they just paid xxxx dollar for one, and want to get some use before a new one comes out.

just be happy you have a good extended warranty. no body apparantly complained when compusa received nz90's before best buy.
