Yet another connection-addict (me :D ) thread proposal: does anybody know if a Clié can be connected to the GSM / GPRS networks through a dedicated extension card?

If yes, will the operating system support telephony functions natively or will we have to find some specific software to use the GSM capabilities?

My question can be generalized to any Nx and Nr series since no information is available on the net concerning this type of extension.

Perhaps Sony does not want to provide a GSM extension for Clié because it would be a direct competitor to the Sony-Ericsson products.

I doubt if that has anything to do with it. In my experience, it seems that there is very little coordination and communication between the various business units of Sony worldwide. Besides, from what I've seen Ericsson is the driving force behind design and development for the cell phone business.

Best bet.... BlueTooth connection to a BT capable phone (SE or Nokia have a few models out in Europe / Asia that seem to work okay)

People been buying the MS Bluetooth stick and connecting to a BT compliant phone for quite a while. Seems that should be more seemless now with the integrated BT.

This is why Sony has added Bluetooth, so you can connect to a GSM/GPRS or CDMA phone.

I spoke to the my Sony rep about the possibility of Clie smartphones and he said Sony wasn't interested at this point because, according to him and several people I have talked to, smartphones aren't selling very well.

Infineon has released a GPRS memory stick in Japan.
