Hello there,
under prefs the time keeps advancing by itself... now the date is 5/24/2018
I have tried to do a soft and hard reset with no good results.
I think this has also affected the security settings, because now it doesn't ask for the password everytime I turn it on, when it used to do it everytime. Even just after a hard reset without any other programs installed just the default ones, the time still keeps on advancing..
Please help... I have lost my Best Buy receipt and I can't take this back for a new one (nx80) anymore...

Seems like you have a program that is affecting your clie settings. I would recommend doing a backup and a hard reset and manually installing your apps 1 by 1. Or try to detect apps that may change your settings.
This is weird and I don't think this is a hardware problem.

He says that it happens even right after a hard reset

You may want to consider a program like TimeCopy (http://www.freewarepalm.com/clock/timecopy.shtml). It sets your Clie time every time you hotsync, and it works GREAT! It will also tell you how much drift you have, etc., if you want to make a complaint to Sony.
(and it's free . . . )

Good luck - I know this has got to be a bummer, especially if you depend on your Clie to keep your life running smoothly!

Sorry and thanks for the clarification kbranch
Try Sony support, thay can answer you by phone or email.
I know this seems silly, but have you applied the System Updates from SONY?
As I said before, it's very odd

I did a hard reset andnow I can't even restore because it says
"unable to initiate Hotsync operation because the port is in use by another application."
... but which one??? this is after a hard reset and theres nothing else running.
I don't even see the option that lets me choose whether local/usb or modem.
Under hotsync log, it says Never syncronized...
I'm really lost. This is the first time this happened to my nx 70. I'm thinking now of opeing up the battery door and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.. Would this help??

Dude, maybe you're stuck in a time vortex! I saw that on Star Trek once...

You can try the battery, it won't hurt!
As for the warranty, if you pay with certain methods (I forget which ones) then they have it on their computers and can look in up. Have you called Best Buy?
And try the updates that Avega suggested:) here:http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/nx70v/softupdates/

Well, I was so frustrated and irritated that I looked high and low for my best buy receipt/performance service plan and found it!!!!
Now I have a brand spankin new NX 80!!! Also bought another plan for this to extend it since time is running out on this service plan. I got it in 2001 when I had a handspring. So i got my NX80 for just $102 ( $70 Plan + 32 for the price difference). What a deal!
Thanks for your suggestions anyways guys. I'm still interested whether this has happened to anyone else before.
