View Full Version : Problems on the hinge... getting loose...

Hi, all.
I have the NX70V about three months, and i love it.
But I´ve noticed my hinge isn´t hard as it used to be (no jokes, please :D ).

It´s getting a little loose. When it´s closed, the upper part (the screen) moves a little. Same thing when in clamshell position.

Nothing to worry about by now, i think. I was wondering about open it and tighten the screws (at least i THINK it can be tighten again), but I´m worried. I don´t know how things are set up inside the screen piece and i´m afraid to screw things up.

Somebody has the same problem? Or what can I do to fix it?
Just remember, I´m not in USA so I cannot take the clie to fix.

I know how to fix it in the previous NR70V, but with SONY's new 'star screws' it seems not easy. If it's not too much and you can live with it, just get used to, otherwise, SONY may replace or replace in some countries.

Tchau! ;)

Speaking of the star screws, does anyone know of a site that sells the screwdriver to fit them, or what the technical name for that size screw is? I remember a few years back when I had a Palm, which also uses a similar unconventional screw, seeing a link to where you can buy one. I don't need to open my NX now, but I opened my NR all the time (99% of the time to fix the hinge problem above), and just in case I'd like to have the screwdriver ready.

you probably dropped it and now are cheating to return it, right?

No, i'm not cheating. I don't even have a place to fix it here (Sony's affiliates).
I'm just using this forum to share and ask knowledge, as some other people may had this problem too.
And if you don't have nothing useful to say, just keep watching tv and drink your warm milk, ok?

If you want to take it apart, try an electronics shop, they have all kinds of screw drivers, don't know how close you'd be to one, may have to order something. I just found this address, check it out

There is no support here in Brazil for Clies, because Sony does not sell them officialy here.
The hinge in mine still feels the same way as it did when I got it; solid but not real tight. I have been using mine with the PEGA-CA80 sports case/pouch, and the finnish still look pretty new.
I have a friend that has one NX with the hinge loose, and I think this happens because of the way he carries it, which is always in a tight pocket in his jeans.
I think you can tighten the screw; to open it you can use a blade (estilete) and try to move it slowly.
Avega, give the inside instructions to SkanksterBR so he can give it a try. Muchas gracias amigo.

E SkanksterBR, espero que voce tenha sorte. Qualquer coisa me manda um email: lode@uol.com.br

Thanks Nelson :)

My hinge is not thaaaaaaaat loose... but i'm worried.
You can easily notice that everytime you open the clie (to clamshell mode).
I think I open it too much :D

I'll try to tighten it - but later...
Waiting to the problem get serious :)

And Avega - thanks, amigo :)
I'm hungry and it makes me a little angry :D

It's hard to explain, so here's a picture:  http://www.picaluga.com/clievideo/cliefix.jpg

Please tell me how can I post a image in a reply message.

My screwdriver came with a miniture Torx Head screwdriver set. I'll have to get a name when I go downstairs.

You can add picture hyperlinks very easily... no need for moderators.... look at this! http://www.picaluga.com/clievideo/cliefix.jpg

just add a {img}http://www.picaluga.com/clievideo/cliefix.jpg{/img} to the hyperlink, just use the square brackets [ ] instead of the { } i used in the demo, haha :)

Can you use all regular HTML tags between [ ]´s?

avega

ricleo are you christian?

ricleo

Yeap! Christian! :) Check out this page for more tricks http://www.cliesource.com/forums/misc.php?s=&action=bbcode
Don't think you can have a whole webpage appended to the thread by using the [] and regular html links, only images.

I´m Christian too :) Thanks for the tricks, the img tag is very useful :)

Larry, do you know what is the size (the number or something..) of the torx screwdriver? I'd like to get one and would help if I could quote the size at the store.

Thanks in advance :D

Are you sure that's the right screw? I thought it was the one above the headphone jack (you can't see it in the picture, as the jack half covers it).

Yes, it's the other one, seems that the picture was confusing to me. The screw is covered by a kind of cloth. Thanks!

Let me see if I can take some new pictures. I'm sure there was a thread with images of an opened clie, but I can't find it...

Hi, I think that the NX structure may be different from the NR picture you provided? anyway, here's a big pic. http://www.pspilot.de/pppnx70/nx70_06h.jpg

And here's the url for the site.http://www.pspilot.de/pppnx70/pppnx70.html

Very nice and sharp pics :)

With four Clies at this location, over time, all four have actually become stiffer with use

So Larry, why do you keep 4 Clies? What purposes do the extras serve?

Well, my younger brother who lives with me also has an NR70 and a NX70. We buy everything in two's. His and his, I do mean everything :).

I use my NR70 at times for reference in my life saving actions by helping fellow Clie users in trouble... :D j/k

I save everything and usually never sell it, because I'll never recoup the money spent. I always have a relative I can unload them on :)
