I was wondering what the difference is between a Compact Flash card and a Memory Stick (other than the price)? It seems that a lot of people like CF much more but I can't seem to figure out why, okay CF is less expensive but what other benefits do you get?

Maybe it is more durable than MS.

With CompactFlash Card (IMHO) you'd have to figure out many workarounds, there're pros & cons.
As you stumble along the way trying to get things working correctly off the CF Card, you also get to learn alot more about the functionality of your Clie & how it interacts with CF Card/Slot. (eg. How do edit movie, at what sampling rate, so that it would run smoothly on CLIE). Simply a voyage of new discoveries day by day. :)
On the other end, one might have to invest alot of time. :(

With an ordinary MS, everything would work flawlessly with the CLIE, one might not even bother to deal with all those minor problems you'd encounter with a CompactFlash Card.

For me, I have both a 256MB MS Pro & also 256MB/1G SanDisk CompactFlash Card. I still find my investment in CF somewhat an enlightment to my NX70, because I can at least, be better at troubleshooting when there's a problem with my CLIE.

Just my personal opinion, don't start shooting at me now. :D

A memory stick, even a small one is a must for the Clie. The CF gives one more storage space, especially if one is into pics, music, or movies.

Do programs run off the CF? Such as Power48, ScummVM, etc.

To answer cliemike's question, the reason I use CF with my CLIE is to maximize my investment in media.

I already have a Canon G2 that takes CF. Buying another CF card for my CLIE gives me the flexibility of sharing this among all my devices instead of having my media tied to specific device. So, I had a 256Mb I'd bought last year for my G2. I bought a 512Mb for my CLIE. Now I can have extra headroom and have an extra movie with me if I don't need my camera for the weekend.

I should mention that when I bought my CLIE, I was rather naive and thought that I could use CF exclusively in place of MS. After using and learning the limitations of everything, I'd made my peace and bought a small MS to "smooth things out". I'd recommend the same. (The most compelling reason for a MS is the backup option. Sony's built-in backup/restore program only works with MS.) The biggest saving is that you don't have to pay usurious rates for MSPro media.

To answer PEG-SJ30, the CF runs non-Sony apps. Specifically, I do run Power48 off my CF.
