HELP!

I decided to simply re-install OS 10.2.3 because I really messed things up playing around with Apple's X11 while also having XDarwin installed. Later reading revealed that that wasn't a good idea. Anyway, after installing Jag and updating to 10.2.3 I went ahead and installed Palm Desktop, replaced my USERS directory in the Palm folder of the Documents folder and tried to sync. Nothing. I ran TOP and cold see that the transport monitor was running. I threw away any prefs I could find related to palm desktop. Unplugged and re-plugged the USB cable and tried again, Still nothing. I was beginning to think I blew the port out on my Clie when it occurred to me that my wife as a Zire. So I tried it. Bingo, transport monitor came up and synced my wifes Zire.

By now I was getting upset. I really began to think I blew up my Clie somehow. With that in mind I took a trip back to my office at work, on the weekend, and tried to sync it up with my PC there. NO PROBLEM!!! Now I was feeling better knowing that both my Mac and Clie was working as it should, so I brought back home with me my cradle, (I use simply a cable at home) thinking that maybe my cable went rotten, but it didn't. So here I am. Hoping someone out there has had similar problems and might have a suggestion as to why my Mac can see my wife's Zire, but not the Clie.

To make things even more troublesome to me, this is a problem I would expect to see on a Windows machine, not an Apple. What's up with that!

Anyhow, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There's nothing wrong with your Clie or Mac. When the Palm Desktop software is installed on a Mac running OS 10.2.3, HotSync doesn't work. If the Palm Desktop was installed on a 10.2.2 or lower system that was then upgraded to 10.2.3, there will be no problem.

Two ways to fix it :

1. Revert the system back to 10.2.2 and re-install Palm Desktop. This fix the HotSync problem. Then you can update to 10.2.2

I can e-mail you a quick tutorial on how to do this using the 10.2 install disks with the "Archive and Install" option. Post your address.

2. Install "Missing Sync v. 3.04" from :

http://www.markspace.com

This will fix the HotSync problem and allow you to mount a MemoryStick on your Mac desktop. It will be recognized by iTunes and iPhoto and you can copy music and picture files for playback on your Clie.

Hope these help.

Update! I did as explained below and still cannot sync as I was before. I even started anew reverting all the way back to 10.0 and still had no success. So I purchased Missing Sync and once again my Clie is happy to talk with my Mac.

I would be interested, if it had not had a expiration date set, if Palm Desktop Beta would provide help to those who cannot get their Clies to work without Missing Sync. I had since deleted my beta copy and cannot try it myself. However that was my upgrade path. Beta to final. I did not own a Clie while I was using the Beta.

Anyhow, thanks for your tip. I wish it had worked out a bit better though.

Great timing. I was about to, dare I say, "blow away" my machine and start over by installing 10.0 and upgrading from there since the difference between my system now and then is that I upgraded all the way from 10.0 previously. However you bring up a good point I overlooked. I had installed PalmDesktop long before 10.2.3. Right after PD beta was released for X as a matter of fact.

I think I can manage the "archive" backrev however if you have already been through this I would much appreciate any details you can provide.

As far as purchasing Missing Sync. I don't have anything against the software, it's just that it would force my to spend money on a very large memory stick as well. Do you have a backrev solution for that problem too? :)

Thank you.
