btw, one MORE thing (aside from the "i never use" keyboard) that i HATE about the NX is that i can no longer write/send/receive emails while using AudioPlayer... stated so in the html manual that comes with the clie....
* if it were a flaw in the design, then why doesn't sony issue a fix right away?
* if it werent a flaw in the design, but actually meant to be... why?

What I hate is all the people who whine about what they hate about the NX. I moved up from a TRG Pro, and it is more than I had expected. I'm pleased with the machine, and I'm not trying to get it to do everything! What you might consider to be a flaw may have been the best option available for the price, other factors, and such. No machine mass produced is perfect, but I researched and found this one that does what it says it will do and I'm satisfied.

Well put and I agree, as soon as I saw the subject line, I was ready to say my peace that I too, am tired of all the Sony / NX bashing!

I can't say I 'hate' anything about my NX. Really, the only thing that comes to mind as an outright negative is the slow performance of Clie Viewer -- that's it.

I certainly can't say I hate my Clie :) I would prefer the same features in a T-series, but I knew that when I bought my NX-60. At most I can say that I'm annoyed with Sony and some of the Clie features, but I'm more satisfied than not.

The only thing that annoys me is the empty and so far useless CF slot, taunting me ("Fill me! Fill me!").

maybe i should have rephrased it from "HATE" to "things that im annoyed at the clie," etc. and maybe you would have a different tone in your message...
for your information, ive gone through from the first generation clie, the S-series (when it first came out here in japan three years ago); then to an N-series, then now to the NX... that it being so, i would really much be "ANNOYED" by the fact that it is "LEVEL-DOWN"... none of the past clies had this kind of problem... and that is what id definitely want to know...
i dont care about your TRG Pro, because the clie is definitely a version up... you have nothing else to compare it to but that...

Well, useless for you maybe, but not for me. Sony advertised it as a Wireless CF Slot, not useless, he-he:D (joke)
If the slot becomes more useful in the future, then it will become an added plus.
My WiFi card is dedicated to the CF slot, and bigger MS sticks are on the way, so why should I complain?

10. MS Pro 1 gb $880
9. Lack of everyone not owning one.
8. Avantgo (I think it's better than iSolo or whatever) still don't full work.
7. 16 megs ram, 11 free?
6. Having to open the clamshell in tablet mode to hit the hard-buttons.
5. Useless CF slot.
4. Not many progs or games utilizing it's power.
3. People making too many useless and stupid progs that cost too much.
2. Sony being the devoloper. (lack of support and BS that they pull, and not giving out info on how programmers can make good progs (as if Sony will ever make any new progs for it that use it's power(since they are the only ones who know the true info on everything)))
1. Newbies not searching the thread for answers already been discussed on this board.
I love my NX70V, but there are too many things that p!ss me off. It's better than any other pda out there, but Sony being the @sses that they are, make it tedious to use and they make it's capabilities worthless.

Oh come on. You know sony. They now have the NZ. Even if they come up with more CF devices, what say that they will put out the drivers for the NX.

First, I love my NX. I have owned or evaluated about half the devices out there and still keep coming back to the Clie. I started with the s320, moved up to an n610 then n710 and upgraded that to an n760. As much as i like some of the features on the PPC I think Sony designs and builds the best and most useable hardware.
Now, with that said, what annoys me about the NX:
1. Keyboard - Sony, get some advice from Blackberry on this before you release the next clamshell Clie.
2. No hardware buttons in tablet mode.

Oops I forgot one.
3. More CF card support! More devices and lower prices!

The things I'm annoyed about:
1) 11MB
2) No separate Voice Recorder Button - I want the capture button to do movies and a different button for voice memos.
That said, after graduating from an NR, I love:
1) That they fixed the Back Button (almost useless on the NR)
2) Extra speed!!
3) Higher Resolution pics
4) Movies and Voice Memos
5) Many more high-res+ apps

The only thing that REALLY bothers me is that I cannot disable the caption button...I always hit it accidently (I have huge Hands) and drain my battery. I hate that I have to be conscious of it all of the time.

Come on, guys. BE positive and be PROUD of your NX. I am very happy with it and it helps with doing everything I need to do. It is just an accessory in your life, chill out.
Frankly, even if I give you 32MB of ram you would complain to want 64! It is just a nature of men. Moreover, how many of you actually use ALL the programs that you installed in it every hour and everyday? Enough is enough.

Each one of us sees his or her PDA as a different device, with different use values, likes, dislikes and shortcomings. Very much like a computer, a PDA is one of those devices that takes on a different personality for each of its users.
There is no such thing as a perfect machine, however, as far as PDA's are concerned; the NX is one on the finest machines available TO DATE
I marvel at the great NEW uses I find for my NX everyday.
As an example, yesterday I was working in an area that I could not see or fit my head to see. I needed to see what type of screw was fastening the piece to the base. I whipped out the NX, turned the vid cam on, shot the part in question. Looking at the result I realized it was an Allen head!
I also think that the native apps, once changed to generally uniformly superior 3rd party apps, help melt away some of the shortcomings of the machine.
What I am trying to say, is that the 3rd party apps make the NX into a much improved machine, just by there use.
IMHO, for instance, Zlauncher, Xlauncher, etc are superior to the native Sony launcher, again IMHO.
Or how about PowerRun, while not eliminating the 11MB Ram shortcoming, certainly helps make the problem a little more easy to live with.
So I would have to say there is very little to hate about the NX

Nike you are so right about the 3rd party appz----the nx rules for those who know how to use it without limiting themself because of the 11mb
I have no problems and I have 130+ appz hehehehe

Just because we want to name improvements does not mean we are bashing Sony. There is so much to *love* about the NX, but Sony needs to hear ways to improve it. I was always taught not to rest on my laurels but to try to improve.....
My comments on things I don't like:
When used in tablet form, you can't hit the buttons.
When using the HOLD button, if the alarm goes off, it HOLDS the Clie on and drains the battery.

I love my NX, and use the CF slot on a daily basis (I got a Princeton modem from Brando).
Memory is low, but it seems Powerrun can help (I´ve been testing it, and I am able to run Netfront from the MS).
Love the Gunmetal color too.
The keyboard could be improved; I like it but because I was pressing hard on it I am seeing marks in some of the keys.

Not sure I get the tone of this comment. The original comment felt positive in its tone in that the Clie was a step up from the TRG Pro, which was a step up from the PalmIII/IIIx/IIIxe.
FWIW, the followon to the TRG Pro, the HandEra 330, is almost two years old now, and did two things better than any Clie to date. The sound (it has an improved sound system, but not one that can be used easily for games) is louder than any Clie I've seen (and I own an SJ-20, T-615, and an NX-60), and something that people here have asked for, landscape mode (which is really a pain unless you minimize the grafitti area).
One thing the HandEra 330 did that I'd like to see the Clies do (without me having to skin it, I mean), is that if you replaced the built-in calculator with a different one, it would use that calculator's icon in place of the soft button next to the grafitti area.
Then again, the NX-60 was nice enough to get me to pay for, and it's the one on my belt right now, so overall, it's definitely the better PDA for me. If I liked everything (but the display, once I got used to seeing Clies) on the HandEra, it would be hard to hate a better PDA. Annoyances, yes, but we've covered that.

That's fine, have you complained or written to Sony? I am not picking on you, but I was just wondering if those who think improvements are necessary have expressed them directly to Sony?

All i want from Sony is the release the info on the CF card slot and programs.
I dont need them to build or produce anything just make the info avaible so the ones that can take advatage of it will. That is all everything esle is just water under the brigh

Balanced:
What I love about my NX:
1. GUNMETAL!!!!!!!
2. Size
3. Shape
4. 200MHz
5. Future expansion
6. Camera
7. GUNMETAL!!!!!!!
What I do not exactly love
1. No CF memory drivers
2. Not enough use of landscape mode
3. Expensive MSs (see complaint #1)
4. Large array of cases that are not exactly perfect (for me)
5. Lack of software to take advantage of new CPU
6. Lack of good use of the CF Wifi card I spent $130 on and just use for AIM
7. No CF memory drivers

The 11mb memory caught me by some surprise.
BUT with a 128MB ms at the time of purchase... what me worry?
I luv iSilo (Turcic.com is a godsend), AcidImage is a GREAT viewer (the 1st time I EVER considered and bought 3rd party apps)
SO FAR it has exceeded my NEEDS and wants in a PDA. Did so much research I was converted from an NR70 to the NX70.
1) No LONGER the Top of the LINE Sony PDA :(
For a old Startrekfan, is the NX the Best
what he can buy.
I Love my NX .
Okay it will be nice to have more Support
for the CF Slot. But i think , wait a little Time and some cool Guys will hack the Slot.

Uhm... just some anti-bashing about the Clié:
The Keyboard is GREAT! It is small, but still allows me to write at about 2/3 the speed I can write on my PC keyboard!
The Camera is Really Usefull! I love taking photos, doing copies of paper notes or copying photos to digital.
I love the turnable display. Tablet mode works great when walking around!
Concerning software:
Try it to see the way you see it on your PC:
Windows has only support for a few tasks and generally this isn't very good.
So what do you do when you get your new PC
1.You need a reader: Mozilla does a great job here, just like for adress and mail managment
2.You need a picture viewer/editor: PSP is almost as good as Photoshop, sometimes even better and A LOT cheaper!
3. You need a download tool like Flashget
4. You need a video compression Like DivX and PegasusMJPEG
5. I could go on forever: right now my Start Menu fills 5(!) pages at 1280x1024
The Point is: with the OS you get only basic support, the programs available for the platform are important
I agree with Tekken. The NX works for me. This is my 5th Palm OS handheld, and although bigger than I was used to, I thought what the hek. It has bags more features, speedy (generally), I use the keyboard, and love the screen.
