My SJ30 (two weeks old) synced perfectly w. Palm Desktop on
Mac OS 10.2.3 directly, first try, w/o any adjustments.
Much, much smoother than my Palm V.
I was really impressed.
I might replace the SJ30 with a T665 though.
I need the mp3 and remote.
Will the T665 also hot sync w/o Missing Sync?

It should sync with all of clie models.

You mean OS 10.2.3 syncs with all Clié models without
Missing Sync? Meaning Apple (or Sony) put Missing Sync
out of business?
How come Sony states so clearly in the manual that the Clié is
only compatible with PC & Windows?
I bet many customers, who would love a Clié, turns to other brands
since it´s "not Mac-compatible". What a shame!

it is not compatible for memory stick mounting. you need missing sync to mount the memory stick, and add mp3s

Yes, I realized 10 minutes ago, reading another thread...
I went right ahead & bought missing sync - online :-)
Still trying to figure out how to download, though....

Consider returning your SJ30 and waiting for the new Sj33 which is supposed to have the remote and mp3 feature plus have a 66mhz and also be lighter and a bit smaller.

NOT all cliés sync out of the box, only those without mp3 !
i suggest getting missing sync, the memory mounting is superb, and i love the itunes/iphoto plugins!

My old S320 can sync with my iBook (OS X 10.2.3) w/o Missing Sync.
But not so with my current N760C :(
It would be great if other Clie users could also list their success synching on OS X Jaguar w/o Missing Sync.

every clié without a DSP chip (=without mp3) can sync out of the box (not mount), when you have mp3 you need missing sync because the USB is not recognised!!!
so S320,625,615,... can sync
NR70(v),NX...,N... can NOT sync and can NOT mount
moral: get the missing sync

Er... my wife's T665 syncs with her iBook just fine. I can even stick mp3s in the Memory Stick folder of the Files to Install directory and they'll dump to the stick and be accessible by the 665's mp3 player.
Although I'm curious if up/downloading files on a memory stick is faster with a card reader rather than through sync. Syncing mp3s seems to take forever.

I have a PEG760C and have installed Palm Desktop 4.0 AND the new version of iSync.
My problem is that when I plug in the cradle into a USB port, my G4 doesn;t even recognise it's there.
Do I need MissingSynch to sort this out or is there something else going on?

Well, I had a T665C and now have an NX70C and both could sync without Missing Sync installed. It did require the download of Palm's software for the desktop. Missing sync allows for transfer of music via iTunes, transfer of pictures via iPhoto, and mounting of the memory stick directly to your desktop to access it like another drive. It's well worth the investment.
Also note that you can also use iSync now to syncronize with address book and iCal. It works well but you end up turning off the syncing through Palm Desktop.

Neil

NX syncing without missing sync??? yeah right!
when you use isync, you also need missing sync!
iSync most definitely does NOT require the Missing Sync. If you could sync without Missing Sync using Palm Desktop alone, then you will still retain this capability with iSync.

Have finalled managed to get the NR70V to sync with 10.2.3 and isync. before that I used Virtual pc which was slow as hell. I have a multi card reader which was just £30 and reads sony memory sticks and have managed to just throw a few mp3's on it. All is working wonderfully. Can't understand why it didn't before!

hmm, i am still confused?
some are saying you NEED missing sync, others are saying not necessary???
I just ordered a NZ90, I have a Mac OS 9.2.2, a 6 in 1 card reader, and Palm desktop 4.0.
I am going to try and sync my Clie w/o Missing sync before I purchase missing sync. I plan on dragging my music and photos straight to the memory stick from the card reader...I wouldn't want to wait for songs and photos to sync from a "hotsync" even if it did work (seems like it would be a lot slower than dragging straight to the memory stick).

Any tips on how you were able to make this work? I've been scratching my head for the past month without any luck.

JackAxe, that's not normal... I sync my NR70V since 10.2, it works on my powerbook and on my girlfriends iBook without a single problem. Suggestion: since 10.2 you had to update your copy of missing sync. Maybe you can describe your setup?
If you wan't help mail me @ koenwastyn@mac.com

Hey.....Helloooooo Sony Corporation.
The Clie Nr70V owners needs the missing sync BUILT IN or Free.

I own iMac with OX 10.2.3 and isync but do not sync with my NR70V.

That's what I thought about it not being normal. I was wondering how he was able to do it. I'm trying to sync with my desktop machine which uses 10.2.4. I have not tried it with my Powerbooks which are also using the same OS.
SONY... =P I should have done more research, I brought my NR70v home thinking it would sync with my Mac because it was a PALM device. Boy was I wrong. Luckily I use a PC for Maya, so I've been able to use my Clie for the past 6 months.
3 things that have irratated me about SONY:
*No true Macintosh support.
*ATTRAC 3
*MS being limited to only 128 megs.

Question - I recently bought a PEG-SJ33 and I am seeing the "cannot sync because port is being used by another application" error. Is this caused by the USB not begin recognized? If this is the case, the I assume that missing sync should fix the problem correct? I just want to make sure it'll work before paying $30 for the software. Anyone have a "before" and "after" experience with a clie w/ mp3 and missing sync?
Thanks

not likely to happen. Sony and Apple see each other as competitors, not collaborators.

I need some clarifications of this conversation, please. I am considering an SJ33. I run an iMac G4 w/ OSX 10.1.5. I use the Palm Desktop software with the Entourage conduit. Will I or will I not be able to sync w/out Missing Sync?
Additionally, I also run a Compaq PC w/ Win98SE. I'm assuming that I would be able to access the MP3 and Memory Stick using that machine. Is my assumption correct?
Thanks!

K.I.S. :
- Clié with MP3 : allways needs "Missing Sync", even for the basic applications like Adressbook and iCal.
-Clié without MP3 : "Missing Sync" is only needed for Memory Stick Mounting and iPhoto plug in.
Sorry, I'm not aware of the situation on the dark side.
Mac greetings.

I'm not using (will not be using) Mac's Addressbook and iCal, I'm syncing w/ Entourage using the Palm Desktop Conduit. Could this make a difference?
Sorry, I'm not aware of the situation on the dark side.
No need to apologize -- I only recently "crossed over." We keep the PC because of the necessity to run applications that we are unable to find suitable replacements for on the Mac platform. I am quite enamored with it, myself, though. I only wish that more application vendors would wake up and smell the coffee!
Thanks for the timely reply.

Hello,
I only use the basic Mac applications (Adressbook + iCall) + "Docs to Go" . I have no experience with Entourage but I think (users please eventually correct...) the basic rule still stands : Clié SJ33 = mp3 = Missing Sync needed for all applications.
Mac greetings. (G4 733 Jag 2.4 - Clié SJ30)

I nver tried to sync without 'missingsync' however, my first attempty to install all th enecessary components was not successful. My set up is as follows:
OSX 10.2.4
MissingSync 3.0.5
Clie NX70V
[syns with] Entourage
Originally, although Hotsync was launched at startup, the Conduit Manager could not activate the Hotsync.
All seems to work fine now after installing the following compentes in thsi order:
Office X 10.1.2 Update
Handheld Sync Installer
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/officex/palmsync.asp
Palm Desktop [mac] 4.0
MissingSync
It all seems to be working fine now.
cheers

Thanks Matt ... sounds like good advice re: installation order.
Here's a question for you all: If I already have Palm Desktop 4 installed along w/ the Hotsync software (and the Entourage conduit), will I need to reinstall?
By the way, apparently CompUSA is selling out all their T665s for a bargain price starting today. $229 after $70 rebate ... now don't go out & buy all of them before I get mine! I'm going to be running out later today to get it. Hopefully, there will still be some left.
I'm so anxious to get this purchase over and done with so I can stop researching. I'm envisioning people lining up at the doors to CompUSA just waiting to snatch those little guys out of my hand!
Thanks for all the help and feedback. I'm sure I'll be back later this week with syncing issues ... well, maybe not.
Love,
Mom

I don't know if you will definitely need to reinstall. If you do need missingsync (and I've no experience with the SJ33) then my recomedation is to install it last.
Cheers

Ok guys/gals,
SJ33 does need Missing Sync 3.0.5 to be able to sync becoz of the MP3/photos capabilities. I've bought mine from MarkSpace and there's no turning back ever since...it works seamlessly with iTunes/iPhotos!

Call me a quad, but I have Missing Sync and still the memory stick from my nx70v doesnt mount onto my 10.2.4 desktop...what gives? Everything syncs ok (with isync and palm desktop 4.0), but no mounting.
Good thing i got a pc-card/memory stick reader installed into my lovely titanium :)
