Does anyone hotsync at home with Palm desktop and also at work with Outlook?

Does it work well? Any tips?

If you are careful, yes. I have been having problems hotsyncing at home AND work (loss of data, duplication, etc.) So, I went to Sony help site and found out that you are supposed to only hotsync on ONE computer.

Of course, if you are careful with the optino setting you might be OK. Still, I lost the entire calendar and the software thinks it did the hotsync successfully.

Be careful.

As Tekken says, it's possible, but you have to keep track of where the most current version is, and avoid updating both desktop apps. If you're not syncing the same info (i.e. memos at home, contacts at work) you can shut off conduits selectively, by right clicking the hotsync tray icon (assumes Windows computer) and clicking Custom

gee, i don't know. I'm new to all this (never had a pda before the nx70), but i've been synching on the cradle every day at the office first thing every morning and just before I leave, and then doing an infrared synch when I first get home and then again when i leave for work. never a problem. I do have it set so that I have to review and accept changes to Outlook, just to be on the safe side. the only thing I ever noticed was that when I played around with private messages, they would seem to disappear.

I set one PC for the Palm to overwrite the desktop PC

Perhaps in this regard, PC is handling it a LOT better. I have PC and Mac at home but am using mainly Mac at home and at work. The Mac's new isync software messes up a LOT. And Mac Office X Entourage (outlook equivalent) does a very poor job also.

One time I setup the Palm overwrites desktop option but guess what? Entourage just downloaded the info from Palm and deleted the data on my Palm!!! I had to reverse the process to get my data back. What a pain! I am just going to hotsync at home and not at work. I wish Sony supports the Mac better.

I've been synching at home and at work for years using Palm Desktop on both. I only had a problem once after my Clie did a hard reset and I restored from one machine via hotsync -- hotsync on the other machine without setting Palm overrides caused data loss. Except for that once, I synch both machines using the defaults with no problem.s

I sync at home & work w/ default values too. Are the issues you're seeing related to Outlook (which I won't use)?

I sync at work to JPilot (on Linux), and then sync at home to Palm Desktop on Windows. I also have Intellisync Lite set up to sync to Outlook during the Palm Desktop sync, but I have it set to overwrite the Outlook database, not do a full sync. I then use Nokia PC Suite to sync Outlook to my 7210 mobile phone. I've found that repeating events tend to screw things up if you sync to non-Palm systems (like Outlook or Yahoo) since they aren't supported the same everywhere.

I sync Outlook at home and Palm Desktop in the office just so I have a record of all the numbers on the office machine incase my clie runs low on battery.

Never had any problems so far. I have set it to prompt on every sync before updating records.

This way you can be sure that it won't overwrite anything important by accident. Maybe a hassle if you enter a lot of data for sync-ing. I tend not to add addresses often and the memos are always more up to date on the handheld so I just click "yes" all the time.

The only risk is that on outlook your hidden items can be seen cause it has no privacy features and anyone can easily hack past your password on palm desktop. (Hence I now keep all private records encrypted in Splash ID)

Ok. I moved to Clie from palm TT. My office uses the stock Hot Sync 4.01 that Palm uses will my Clie work? Trust me they won't put the Hot Sync Lite on the network. I wanted to find out before I buy a serial/usb cable for work.

Glad I checked here - I've been having problems similar to T800.

I've been syncing to Palm desktop both at home and work for years without problems. But my office finally switched from Groupwise to Outlook over the holidays, and now I sync my calendar (but only my calendar) to that at work. I use the Intellisync Lite version that was included on my SJ30 CD. It sometimes does strange things - for example, it usually wants to delete from my handheld all events that occurred yesterday, although not before that.

Tekken - the Sony help site is down right now (hmmm - this is my very first experience with Sony support, but I have heard the stories . . . ) Does it really say point blank that you shouldn't sync on two PCs? I am astonished - I have been doing exactly that every day for six years with my Palms/Visors and never had a problem.

Tonight I will set my home PC to have the handheld calendar overwrite the desktop calendar. But I suspect that won't fix the problem - it sounds like the problem is in Intellisync. Any thoughts/suggestions? BTW, Pumatech does not support Intellisync Lite - they say it's a custom Sony version and Sony must provide support.

There is an option in Intellisync Lite which sets the date range (days forward and backward) which should be synchronized. Bring up Intellisync Lite Configure, click on Datebook, then Advanced, then choose the range of dates you want (I go back 30 days and forward 365).

Funny thing about my hot sync. I removed the whole app from my old Palm TT and loaded the hot sync app from Sony. It says it is 4.1.0? That can't be right or is it?

That's a coincidence - I tried exactly those settings earlier today, figuring that range was pretty safe. But Intellisync wanted to make over 800 changes to each platform! I cancelled the sync and returned to the original settings.

Now, I didn't mention before that I'm using DateBk5. Any idea if that could be causing the problem? It's a weird one, to be sure.

And darn it, I AM a registered user! I'm even in the index! How come I keep showing up as a guest??!!

I don't think DateBk5 should have anything to do with it - it doesn't do anything which is non-standard from a Palm Desktop or Intellisync standpoint. You could backup your system, then allow Intellisync to make all the changes - it could be it would just be updating its internal ID for each event, and from then on it would be fine.
