View Full Version : Further Enhancing our NX70V

Now.......

the NX70V has been around for about 8 months now and I really call myself a satisfied customer. It did (and does) all it promised and even more. Few enhancements have been introduce ever since it's release thanks to -upgrades, 3rd party dev, pathces, etc.
So far, so good.....

Knowing the potential of our machine i still think there's more space for improvement. Few things come to mind:

- the possibility to use the built-in camera as a webcam
- the possibility to use the built-in camera to record movies in higher resolution than a stamp-size
- the possibility to exploit the enhanced multimedia capabilities of the device to have
*a better mp3 player (DSP, VBR ....)
*a better movie player (DIVX)
*a midi player (MIDI)
*a music sequencer/expander
- the possibility to use mp3s and midi in our agenda
- the possibilty to have pictures (portraits or business cards) linked to the address book but NOT stored in RAM

This is no fiction! These are functionalities that our device can and should provide.

Do you think we will eventually see any of these implemented? Any other functionalities that I'm missing?

Luke

I forgot 2 things:
- being able to delete apps from Flash ROM
- being able to upgrade to OS6

I can only agree with your wish-list ! I'm really looking forward a better movie recorder app....
But as Sony isn't going to provide the piece of software that would enhance our pdas as you wish  , we can only wait for christmas and see if the oh-oh-oh man will answer your wishes..... But I have a doubt here :D

.... and of course.... the possibility to overclock fron 200 to 300Mhz

I think you are one these guys here:
http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19162
and then read the comments.
BTW:
My picture for address book are all on the MS!
How big will files be if not in stamp size recorded? Try third party apps which will record in native avi, like the ones for the NR70.
DivX is long possible with MMPlayer0.1.6
MiDI player is long available(sry- forgot name, do a search on the forum)
sequencer was released yesterday and is momentarily on the toplist of cliesource
MIDI in agenda is via SoundConverter possible. MP3 is a lack of the developers not of the device.
Okay Sony is not giving API's but the device has its functionalities and is just awesome. PalmOS won't be so easy available since we have different hardware than Palm (OMAP), although both are ARM's.
Apps deleting from FlashROM will be done someday by JackSprat(in development for OS5- not Sony's fault)
Sony locked the 200MHz- you need to open your device to get more(BTW- the bus works only with 50Hz. 100Hz are minimum possible).
You knew when you were buying your new toy there would be problems- its Sony. So switch to Palm or just wait. Developers will find a way(CF-Driver).

I don't get it

I wish I could chose to have stamp size recording when file size is an issue and a better resolution when I have an empty 128mo MS to fill !
And if you know any third party video camera apps for the NX70, I'm really interested :D :D :D
I confess that I'm not really interested in the others extra features....

swooze.com
3MB= 3sec
that is
128MB=128sec = 2minutes 8sec ridiculous!!

That's a NR70V program: nothing for the NX70 there !

And I don't get your point with this "3MB= 3sec" "demonstration".
If there really was a third-party video camera app for the NX70, I bet there would be some medium choice for the resolution and the compression (and not only the actual "I-can-record-my-life-on-my-NX-but-cant-see-nothing-afterwards") and a still picture or a 3sec for 128Mo compression !!!!!!

Also, maybe you got me wrong : I love the NX70V I own !
I bought it thinking I would never use the video recorder, and I'm in fact using it a lot ! But I just say that it would be so cool to have it a little better

Oops. I mixed up the app. There is another thread with another app as well. Will tell you tomorrow
The filesize is to big to record a decent movie. Download the teaser movie. And calculate the filesize.

Seems the limited the size because at the time there was only a 128MB MS. No pro yet.

Perhaps they will upgrade the recorder.

Great wish list, let's hope that we can afford at least one or two of them from sony

????

My picture for address book are all on the MS!

How do you do that?

How big will files be if not in stamp size recorded? Try third party apps which will record in native avi, like the ones for the NR70.

they do not exist!

DivX is long possible with MMPlayer0.1.6

Doesn't work (are you sure you have an'NX70?)

MiDI player is long available(sry- forgot name, do a search on the forum)

Doesn't work

sequencer was released yesterday and is momentarily on the toplist of cliesource

still basic

MIDI in agenda is via SoundConverter possible. MP3 is a lack of the developers not of the device.

Who said it was the device?

Okay Sony is not giving API's but the device has its functionalities and is just awesome.

I strongly agree

PalmOS won't be so easy available since we have different hardware than Palm (OMAP), although both are ARM's.
Apps deleting from FlashROM will be done someday by JackSprat(in development for OS5- not Sony's fault)

How can you be so sure since everyone says the opposite

Sony locked the 200MHz- you need to open your device to get more(BTW- the bus works only with 50Hz. 100Hz are minimum possible).

This is not true. The same processor has been overclocked on PPC via SW app.

You knew when you were buying your new toy there would be problems- its Sony. So switch to Palm or just wait. Developers will find a way(CF-Driver).

I am short on time but since I offended you LUKEBM (which I now apologize for my rudness)I need to give some more proofs:
Create on the MS in PALM a folder called Images. Now drop a picture. You will be able to have this appearing in your adressbook.

Why shouldn't it be possible to get into the ROM? Another just says he could open the ROM and throw into whatever he wanted with a FREEWARE app(BTW I don't believe, it is on the TG-Forum he wants to trade a new TG50 for an old used one with flash ROM).

Well on the one hand I would like it to be but I don't think on Sony devices this would be possible to do. Okay this means I have to be wrong in one case. On the Flash or on the CPU Errh,...

LukeBM:

I am using Mini Music; Notepad and Beatpad. Also just got a copy of Music Studio. All have their strengths. This stuff is almost to the point of being able to do what Cakewalk could do about 5 years ago. I highly recommend Mini Music.

And yes, there is a midi player available but I don't have a name.

What I am waiting for is Acid Pro for Palm. Now that would be cool!

So, are you a musician? I am looking at starting a network of midi for Palm users. Not PLAYERS, but content creators.

Let me know.

Please, please NX70 : don't stop here : give me the name of the other app. You were talking of a third-party movie recorder for the NX70, weren't you ??
I haven't been able to find the thread you're talking about..
please help !!

nx70: when you link an image to your address book, this creates a smaller thumbnail in your RAM which takes up space! Try imagine what would happen if you had 300 business cards linked. Now, this explains my concern.

I don't understand your point of getting it to ROM. I didn't mention anything similar.

Furthermore, in the thread I started, I listed a lot more wishes...

Anyway, I think we're all on the same side on this forum: we all like our NX and would like to do all it's made possible by the HW without limitation.

The idea was to stimulate the discussion in a positive way. It's nobody's fault. I just wish I could do all...

Luke

p.s.
Anyway, I appreciate your apologies. Only mature people can do that.

one can never be satisified. :D
I'd consider that a dream machine, but once you've your hands on it, then what'll your want next? hehe

I completely agree, and the reply I added was in exactly the same spirit.
Can I give an example : I was sure that it was impossible to listen to the audioplayer while running an other app. I still asked a question here - a wish :) - and I got the obvious answer from a cliesource member : just check the option in audio player :D
Well it really improved my NX70 :D :D :D
And if you (NX70) can give me the name of the movie recorder app you were writing about, maybe I will soon have a better NX70 (again !).. Whouhou I like this clie :D

there was a software that could change the resolution of the movie its taking ... but it was like last year but i know its for the nr70v not for the nx...
