What are your recommendations for getting the most out of my empty ROM space?
I have a brand new NX-60 (SIDENOTE: Although labeled "refurbished" - having read other posts on this site - I would concur by saying it's actually brand new - $250 from ubid.com last week.)
Having had a Palm OS device since Aug '96* -I'm pretty familiar with the tricks of running stuff from ROM/Storage Cards - and even have a few related (registered) apps - but not Power Run or JackFlash (Have TRGPro, PiDirect, BackupBuddy VFS, Filez - probably a one I've forgotten.)
It seems from the forum that JackFlash is a favorite - but I see it doesn't seem to be OS 5 certified yet.
Thanks in advance for your input !

PS - This is really more for another forum, but: If anyone has thoughts about smoothing my transition from my current m130 (I do use BackupBuddy Desktop & on Palm) to the NX-60, I'd appreciate the input. I have already printed out a long, very helpful posting by "n2ifp" - dated 6/28/03. Thanks n2ifp.

Palm 1000 w/512k card
Palm IIIxe
Palm m130
Sony CLIE NX-60 (just out of the box - still unsynced)

JackFlash works great
PalmOS 5 (NX60/70 and NZ90) was added in version 3.0b6
(there is a 3.0b7 and 3.0b8 available)

Someone mentioned the brand new NX73/80 aren't supported yet, which is not surprising.

It seems from the forum that JackFlash is a favorite - but I see it doesn't seem to be OS 5 certified yet.The newest version of PowerRun works ok on OS5, but if you get Zlauncher (an app launcher & a REAL deal @ $12), it has the same capability built in (and OHSOMUCHMORE!), and you won't need powerrun.
The OS5 JackFlash is still in beta, but it's VERY stable. You have to purchase an older version, then request the beta.
I don't know what TRGPro software is. A google search turned up nothing.
PiDirect WILL NOT and WILL NEVER work on OS5.
BackupBuddyVFS has an OS5 version (but you must request it), but it is backup software, not related to 'moving files', so to speak. Filez works great on OS5.

Awesome -Thanks !
Follow-up - if you don't mind:
Is there any way to remove some of what I find "up there" in the ROM - think I read that JackSprat would do it - but that is not OS 5 compatible. Is that true?
What I would want to do is see what of the Sony stuff I really don't use and then SAVE a copy of it - THEN remove it
Thanks again to CliePet- & to anyone else who has some thoughts on the topic,
Mark

Woops !
YellowRose was correct - the software I mentioned at the beginning of this thread isn't TRG Pro - it's FlashPro that I used on my older Palms with flash ROM - see: http://www.handera.com/products/cat-flashpro.asp
Thanks for keeping me straight.

Correct, JackSprat does not function yet on OS5, so you can't remove apps from ROM. Sorry, never used FlashPro, is that a Palm thing?
BTW, your Welcome :)!

Yeah FlashPro was/is sold by the software arm of Handera. It used to work on any Palm with flash memory; On my old Palm 1000, it gave the user another 600+kb - which was about 30% of my old souped up Palm 1000 in thoose days.
Taking about TRG/FlashPro reminds me of two more Palm (/Upgrades I'be owned:
1) Palm 1000 (native, 128k RAM - yes, the original 1000 model only 128kb)
2) Palm 1000 w/1Mb Palm Upgrade Kit
3) Palm 1000 w/2Mb (custom board modification by TRG - who became Handera.)
4) Palm IIIxe
5) Palm 130 (Won at PC Expo in NYC last year.)
6) NX-60 CLIE
